Checkpoint Week 3 It242
Network Consulting Scenario IT240 October 6,

You have been contracted to build a network for a multimedia development firm that currently uses a 10-Mbps Ethernet network. The company requires a high-bandwidth network for the multimedia team, which constantly views and manipulates large files across the network. The company is expecting moderate growth. You are to come up with a solution to support the high bandwidth applications and growth potential of this company.

Required result:
■ Increase network bandwidth.
Optional result:
■ Support future growth.
■ Improve server response time.

Proposed solution:
■ Install CAT 5 UTP cable in a star topology with the existing hub.
■ Upgrade the workstation’s adapter cards to support 100 Mbps.
■ Increase the amount of RAM in the server.

The proposed solution ___________.
a. achieves the required result and both optional results b. does not achieve the required result but achieves both the optional results
c. does not achieve the required result but does achieve one of the optional results
d. achieves the required result but cannot achieve either of the optional results
e. achieves neither the required result nor either of the optional results

I would have to say that the proposed solution would not resolve this issue of future growth because it would not allow for the bandwidth to increase which is vital for growth it would also not increase the response time. By installing CAT 5UTP cables and using network cards that support speeds up to 100Mbps would also not allow for an increase in bandwidth on the network.

I would say that in order to increase response time I would create a server farm rather than using one single Server. By doing this you are not stressing the one server to the point where there might be a bottleneck effect within some point of the network.

I would have to recommend installing a switch rather than a hub because this would decrease the amount of collisions within the network and at the same time increase response time. I would also recommend installing routers within the network with sub-networks which should decrease the amount of broadcasting that is going across the network; this will also increase response time. With using the routers the company would be able to segregate the unused address space for future growth. I would also recommend that the routers and switches be able to support 100mbps or higher to achieve the goal of increasing the bandwidth.

For all three settings given the conditions in which to work with a client server based model is the choice. This choice is made for a few different reasons while considering multiple factors. First off client server includes an option for flexibility. That is growth and, or modification to any existing device, or future additions to the system. The design, implication, material, and budget demands are reasonably accomplishable. A client server offers tighter security through a central database which houses an array of customized permissions which allows an appointed user whatever access is needed. A client server base model is reasonably equipped to accommodate the expanding business to the business with everything…

An enterprise level company wishes to set up a network to support several hundred business users as well as manufacturing equipment in a new building. Describe what network device or devices you would recommend they purchase and explain why. Note, you are not required to detail the media or topology utilized, but thinking about these will help you to choose and justify your device choices. I would suggest the purchase of a rack system with two servers on large server to handle the few hundred computers and users and the other to handle the manufacturing equipment. This would give them choices for backups and file sharing between one another. The servers…

The three dimensions to business problems are Organizational, Technological and People. With Organizational dimension comes outdated business processes, political conflict, complexity of task and inadequate resources to name a few. Technological dimension problem comes with outdated software, inadequate database capacity, rapid technological change and others. People dimension problems are lack of employee training, legal and regulatory compliance, indecisive management and lack of employee support and participation. Three dimensions in my current workplace are people; there is a lack of basic knowledge concerning applications such as Microsoft Office and in house database applications. Another example is Technology; there are workstations and servers that have been outdated for years, just as certain applications such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office are behind in versions. With the organization part, I have noticed there are many political issues between managers and employees there is a no respect for either party. To add, there is no a guideline or documentation on the procedures for tasks to be executed; this is when new employees arrive there is major chaos.…

I believe that e-mail usage with an organization is beneficial to all parties within an organization. Its main purpose is for communications between employees, management, and clients. It is a tool used from a PC to a PC or MAC which is sent and received in seconds, As far as the downside of e-mail usage can be the information being sent and received and the privacy issues. Organizations fear that that the information being sent and or received can lead to a lawsuit or cause adverse publicity for that organization, which could be costly to an organization. This is one of the main reasons organizations limit the usages of e-mails. The path once an e-mail leaves an organization is a very broad one, it goes through an IP address from sender to an IP address to the receiver (or what we call the internet). And the receiver can then take the information sent to them and resend it others without the permission or even knowledge of who in turn will receive it and what they will do with it. An e-mail can pass through many hands before ending up in the right place.…

Ethernet is one of the most popular and widely used LAN technologies because of its speed, reliability, cost, and lastly its ease of installation. Ethernet networks can be configured in either a star topology using UTP connected to a hub or a bus topology using a coaxial cable acting as a backbone. When a computer wants to send data over the network, it will listen to see if there is any traffic on the network, if it is clear, it will then broadcast the data through the network. I think that most of today’s companies, including XYZ technology consultants, would be better off implementing an Ethernet protocol. Because this business is in one building, and the effectiveness of the efficiency is distance limited, Ethernet protocol seems the best fit for this scenario.…
