In Freak the Mighty friendship is demonstrated many times. Between Freak and Max they show a lot of friendship as the story develops. For example, when Max helps Freak see the fireworks by putting him on his shoulder, that shows friendship. Also, when Freak helps save Max from his father, it shows friendship. These are examples of friendship because if they werent friends that wouldnt care for eachother and help eachother in these ways. This is important to the story because if they werent friends the story would not be as interesting. Some examples of this would be, Freak and Max would not go on quests if they werent friends which would make the book less interesting. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, George, a wiry caretaker, and Lennie, a childlike worker, focus on the false reality of the American Dream rather than realizing the importance of companionship. Unusually, the workers were like brothers, while most farmers were lonely. Both farmers “labour, and suffer together” (Winthrop 1). While getting fired from their last job, the boys continue their journey onto the next one and wait to see what it brings. Describing the lonely life of men who work on ranches, Lennie explains to George “‘But not us! An’ why? Because... because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you’” (Steinbeck 14). Despite having little success, George attempts to protect Lennie however he frequently remarks…

Really think about this, how do friends really treat each other? Do they ask their friends to come and tag along with them; or do they just say “ Hey I am going somewhere I will be back later?” In the novella Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, George and Lennie are supposed to be best friends, but they're not. In the beginning of the book the boss asks George if he was taking Lennie's paycheck, he says no, but Lennie can not take care of himself let alone him patcheak. In the middle of the book George tells Slim that he picks on Lennie a lot by playing jokes on him that he does not understand. No true friend would leave their friend hanging, yell at them, or make them fear the very thought of them.…

The United States has long been considered a “Nation of Immigrants.” According to 2009 American Community Survey estimates, about one in eight U.S. residents are foreign-born. These racially diverse immigrants come from all over the world to the United States for a variety of reasons, but most seek a better life for themselves and their families. However, some groups encounter significant challenges to achieving the “American dream.” This course will examine the political, social, and economic factors that contribute to the unequal incorporation of immigrant groups from different parts of the world. It will also explore how immigrants and their children have mobilized to secure rights and equal opportunities. Particular attention will be paid to the experiences of immigrants in Los Angeles and New York, the two metropolitan areas with the largest foreign-born populations.…
