What if there was an operation to make people with a low IQ smarter? In the story,” Flowers for Algernon”, one of the most asked questions is, should Charlie have had the operation? No, I do not think that Charlie should have had the operation and these are reasons why. First off if you have not read the story,”Flowers for Algernon”, here is some background Information on who Charlie Gordon is. Charlie Gordon is a 38 year old man and he was born with an IQ of 68 (that is low) and is going to have an operation that is going to make him smarter.     Charlie Gordon, the protagonist, is a thirty-two-year-old man who has been mentally challenged since birth. At the beginning of the story, he has issues understanding people, and is rejected by the public. He speaks in broken sentences, and his writing is full of errors. Those around Charlie often mock and take advantage of him for his differences, but he does not realize it. Nonetheless, he has a warm, friendly personality.
