Charles Sanford Pierce is the father of Pragmatism. He believed the task of philosophy is to solve problems, and that is why it is the most American philosophy. Pierce argued for a philosophy that would work with real issues. Pierce influenced and formalized the scientific method as it is used today. Pierce united action with intellectual vigor, he reacted against the extremes of purely rational approaches and scientific materialism. To Pierce rationalism was disconnected for the daily needs of people and scientific materialism overlooked human qualities. Pierce wanted to unite the two traditions by asking what difference does it make in my life today. Pragmatism is not really a set of beliefs but a way of discovering what is true by asking,
