Characteristics of a Good Friend
What characteristics do you look for when choosing a friend? There are many different characteristics that describe a good friend. Everybody has different ideas on what they want and need in a friend. Characteristics you might want in a friend could range from, someone you can relate with someone that is the complete opposable of you. What I want in a friend is something simple, when I choose my friends I would like then to be honest, confidence, and sincere.

What exactly does sincerity mean? Sincerity is generally understood to be truth in word and act. It is very important to be sincere at all times and to everyone in which you encounter. All people should be treated kindly and with respect. You cannot trudge though life always being negative or putting other people down, in reality you will be the one that is thought about in a negative and pessimistic way."Sincerity is a powerful sales tool" is a very meaningful quote and refers significantly to this aphorism. All teenagers must possess the quality of sincerity if they want to get through the many adversities life passes their way.

Honesty to me is the most important quality to look for in a friend because if you have honesty it will bring many other great qualities along whit it. Honesty is a facet of moral character and connotes positive and virtues attributes such as integrity, truthfulness and straight forwardness along with the absence of lying, cheating or theft. If you were to look up the meaning of truthfulness, you would see that it means “to be consistent in telling the truth and to be honest.” In that same dictionary, the word honesty is defined as “the capacity or condition of being honest; integrity; trustworthiness”. Without honesty the friendship would fall apart.

Self confidence is the ability to posses the absolute sureness of feeling that you are equal to the task at hand. If one is self-confident, that trait shines through the person in everything they do, say, what they wear and how they look. "Confidence is the key. If you don't believe in yourself, then nobody will”. A confident person believes in themselves, does what they feel is right and is never afraid of failure. Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives.

In conclusion, the qualities I look for in a friend are sincerity, honesty and confidence. I think these qualities are important because, to me they are the foundation of every great friendship. I like to think that I am a perfect friend but, you are not going to find friends that are completely perfect. Friends might lie and hurt you at times but they make up if they are true friends. Everyone has a flaw but, if they try to stay honesty and loyal to you then that us close enough.

Confidence: that elusive ability to project strength, wisdom, leadership and competence in the face of extraordinary -- or, even ordinary -- circumstances, even when we feel like crumbling on the inside. What this means, is that in any given situation we exude the desired characteristics that make people believe we are calm, composed and have the ability to pull through to the other side. In short, we believe in ourselves and we give people reason to believe in us, too. This ability to project confidence will go a long way in helping us be successful in life. This is especially true in the business world, where projecting any sign of weakness is construed as an inability to get the job done effectively and efficiently. When you stop to think…

Respect for each another is imperative in a friendship. Everyone has secrets, so one should not press for answers when the other is clearly unwilling to share the information. Confidence comes with knowing and understanding that the step they will take is correct, proper and effective. Someone is considered confident when he/she is well prepared for an exam, or well equipped for a project that needs to be turned in. They are certain that the outcome of their prediction will be as they predicted. However, they show this certainty through nonverbal communication. People are able to show their knowledge through action rather than words, leaving enough room to see the insights and beliefs of others. Confidence allows one to look through a different perspective in terms of a situation, rather than through just his/hers eyes. They are more flexible and open to change, whether it be making a group decision, or discussing an outlook on a certain subject. Confident people are well aware that they are one of many who are talented and capable and show others that they are aware of this. Most of these people bring an approachable personality, providing a comfortable conversation and or discussion. They bring forth their ideas in humble way, rather than forcing them onto others. This gives his/her peers a chance to also share their beliefs and ideas. They respect and quietly take pride in what they possess and who they are, but remember that they are not the only people with these possessions living in this world. Thinking this way keeps confident people…

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “To have a friend you must be a friend.” After taking some time to ponder this quote, I agree whole heartily with Emerson. I believe that a person in search of a friend must display the different qualities that they want out of the relationship. My friendship with my best friend Mellissa did not occur over night, I had to display that I was honest and trust worthy in order to call her my friend. From the beginning of the relationship, I was completely straightforward with her. I never gave her any false information or any reason to question my motives. In turn, she was completely honest with me. Loyalty is also important in maintaining a relationship. When my friend was going through some tough family trouble, I always made sure that she knew that I was there for her. But most important, the relationship lasted so long because I respected her. I never judge her religious beliefs or any view that she stand for. One might observe that in life friends are not a given, they are earned.…
