Character Analysis Of 'Johnny In The Outsiders'
I have read and watched the Outsiders and now I think about it sometimes and the first person who comes up in my mind is Johnny. Johnny, a character in the “The Outsiders” by S.E Hinton has to get through hard times in the bad streets and gangs of Tulsa,Oklahoma. He was unfortunately unable to survive the hard times and ends up passing away. He was happy for what he died for after saving kids in a burning church. Johnny scared, uneasy, and intuitive ways make him forever remembered in the Outsiders. After reading the first 5 chapters of the Outsiders, you will think that Johnny is not the brave kind of guy. Getting near the end of Chapter 6, Johnny shows Pony and Dallas how brave he can be by literally risking his life for other kids. Johnny …show more content…
Well the rest of the book he isn’t like that;He is more uneasy meaning causing or feeling anxiety;troubled or uncomfortable. Pony says”I had never been jumped, but I had seen Johnny after the after four Socs got hold of him, and it wasn't pretty. Johnny was scared of his own shadow after that. He was sixteen then.” Hinton tries to display Johnny’s uncomfortableness of going out alone and how scared he was after he got jumped. This whole book even with the church incident Johnny can be displayed as a uneasy character. Near the end of the book johnny shows intuitiveness or thoughtfulness to Pony . Also Earlier to the kids he saved. There is 5 words that Pony really thought about in this book. Johnny was in the hospital and right before he died he told Pony to “Stay gold,Ponyboy. Stay gold”.(148). Johnny tells Pony that because he understands how easy it would be for Ponyboy to change because of their harsh environment. He also, like Pony doesn’t always think about rumbles and fighting. He watches more movies and sunsets. Hinton leaves the reader with impression that Johnny is thoughtful of others and intuitive. There are a lot of books and authors in the world. Hinton attracts the readers of the Outsiders attention by describing Johnny in a way not many characters can be described. Since Johnny is brave, uneasy, and intuitive he is a character that readers can be touched

Johnny is seen more tough than sensitive in the book the The Outsiders. A piece of evidence that shows that Johnny is tough is “I killed him,” (Hinton, 49). This shows that Johnny is tough because he was not scared to kill him, like how an average person would have been. Another example is “He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.” (Hinton, 79). This also shows that Johnny is tough because…

Johnny can stay away from home for long periods of time and neither of his parents seem to care or notice. Even though Johnny has bad role models, he's tries to stand up and be a good person. We’ve never see him being mean or mistreating others. He even challenges his idol, Dallas, when he sees how uncomfortable Dallas was is making Cherry and Marcia at the movies on pages 24. To make things even worse, Johnny was brutally beaten by the Socs last spring and now lives in a constant state of fear. On top of that, he doesn't quite get enough to eat, he often sleeps outdoors, and is even contemplating suicide. After Johnny saved the children from the fire, he seems to be saying that he's come to terms with his death, because death was the price he had to pay to regain some of the innocence he'd lost. Being involved in so much violence, in some ways it probably made him feel pure. He would prefer to live, even though he's probably more scared to live than to die, because he can see that there is good in the world, and that he's been a part of it. Johnny is a remarkable young teenager that went about his daily life with great…

Robert Renfroe, better known as Bob Riley once said, “Hard times don't create heroes. It is during hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed”. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, Johnny Cade is a 16-year-old Greaser with long and greasy ebony hair covering his forehead. He has dark pusillanimous eyes and a scar that runs from his forehead to his cheekbone. Johnny is portrayed as an abused boy who was emotionally and physically traumatized, but throughout the novel, it is revealed that he is a gallant individual who is willing to risk his life for others.…

Johnny Cade, from the book The Outsiders, lost his innocence in numerous ways such as having to endure getting abused for years by his parents, getting beat up the Socs, and feeling the pain of ending someone’s life. Johnny lives in a home that is rough and unsafe, which drastically impacted all of his life decisions and choices. As a result of all of these choices, he’s thrust into a life that many people don’t understand, and encounters many life-changing dilemmas that cause him to grow up and lose his naiveness. An example of this is when he gets jumped by the Socs, so he promises to hurt the next person who tries to hurt him, which he ends up doing. Johnny is certainly selfless in the conventional way, as a considerate, polite young man. But it extends to his attitude toward pain. He never lets anyone else pity him, not out of pride, but to spare their feelings; when he first discovers he has a tumor, he wonders how to break the news to his parents. There are only a few instances in the memoir when he reveals a deeper hurt, and even these are likely tamed versions of what he is really feeling. Gunther believes that Johnny leaves his diary out on occasion so that he, indirectly, can communicate to him and Frances about matters he'd rather not discuss, but his entries, too, never descend into self-pity.…

To begin with, Johnny proves he is a hero throughout the story. First, he acts like a hero during the fire. Anyone who will risk themselves to save others is a hero at that moment. "In the back, I guess," I hollered, and we started stumbling through the church." (pg. 92) This proves that Johnny is a hero in the novel The Outsiders because Johnny sacrificed themselves to save the kids stuck in the church on fire. Johnny grew as a hero from this experience. Second, I think you can argue that Johnny is a hero as he dies. Instead of thinking only of himself and feeling sorry for himself, he is clearly focused on others. It is his note to Pony that helps motivate Ponyboy to "stay gold." During the novel, Johnny states, “Johnny’s eyes glowed. Dally was proud of him. That was all Johnny had ever wanted. 'Ponyboy. Stay gold, Ponyboy. Stay gold . . .…

In present day you wouldn’t see novels like The Outsiders where people like Dally get in jail at really young age (10 years). Back then it would it be normal in some places where you would see some kids going somewhere all by themselves and they shouldn’t be there. Johnny was a tough kid because he lived by himself and got through his parents abusing him. I have to admit; Johnny has helped a lot with my theme which is good. He has been a big inspiration for me to make my theme and a big role model. He’s such a great example of what a person should and shouldn’t do and I just feel bad that he has to die this…
