Atticus hasn't shot in so many years and they depended on him to kill the dog, and so he did which then game everyone excitement and celebration. Atticus has had some history with shooting before which his kids didn't know about. Everyone else in the town will be talking about it and remembering all those past memories of Atticus. Moving on from celebration it's time for the most mature moment in the story, Jem has asked him about Mr. Ewell and now they are worried for him due to the fact that he said that he will get him really bad, but Atticus said in return that "If spitting in my face and threatening me saved Mayella Ewell one extra beating, that's something I'll gladly take. He had to take it out on somebody and I'd rather it be me that that houseful of children out there." (Lee 218). Atticus wasn't afraid of what Mr. Ewell would have done to him if it wasn't only spitting on him and the way he just didn't go out of control on him. This should be taken into consideration because it shows how Atticus is more mature than Mr. Ewell who acts like a 5 year old child. In other places other people would have probably taken it to the route of punches. Everyone should think before doing something
