Chapter Summary Of The Book When It's Not Luck
It's not luck is an extremely well written book that mixed fiction with solid business and human-relations principles. The book demonstrates a lot about theory of constraints. This made it very easy to read and it was almost hard to put down. Alex and his team have been promoted to a key position in their corporation. Great pressure is put on Alex and his team to turn the faltering business around. In the book Alex’s main goal is to help out three companies ICosmetics, the printing company and the pressure steam company. He is trying to come up with ideas on how to help them get a fair price if the company decides to sell them. In the story Alex emphasizes the thinking process and the importance of using it not only in the business world but in personal life situations too. Alex utilizes the thinking skill quite a bit in the book. The five thinking skills are evaporating cloud, current reality tree, future reality tree, transition tree, and negative branch reservation. Alex uses the evaporating cloud, which is also, known as the negotiation cloud in the second chapter to help resolve a family situation on weather or not his daughter can stay out late. He also uses this in the third chapter when dealing with the printing company, which is marginally profitable, but they have some issues with the wrapper department this leads …show more content…
Next the Future reality is used in chapter 20 to get a better idea of what they need to do for the future. Chapter 23 ended with two months of lost sales hanging over Alex’s teams head. Which leads us chapter 24 and they negative branch reservation. Alex writes out the negative branch and asks how they are going to trim the negative outcomes. As they use this thinking skill they work through the problem and figure out that it will work with just a few simple

    Nicholas Sparks was born on December 31, 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska. As a child his family would move around a lot due to his father working on completing his graduate work. His family was financially unstable during his childhood also (Bio.com). In high school he attended Bella Vista High School in Fair Oaks, California and was nominated valedictorian when he graduated. Sparks was accepted into the University of Notre Dame on a scholarship for track and field (Walters). While at Notre Dame, Sparks met his future wife Catherine Cote (Bio.com). Sparks also held a record for a relay race from his freshmen year in college (Walters). Sparks had to give up track and field that summer because of Achilles tendonitis (Walters). During the summer though, Sparks wrote his first book titled The Passing, but was never published (Famous Authors). After writing his first novel, Sparks went into pharmaceutical sales and was about to give up writing all together (Bio.com). He decided that he would write three more books and if none of them were published he would quit. In the beginning of June 1994, Sparks began writing the Notebook, which is his most known book to date. When he finished in 1995, Sparks was discovered by literary agent Theresa Parks and was offered a one million dollar movie rights contract (Famous Authors). A few months later, Sparks’ father died in a car accident at the age of 54. The death of his father, while devastating to him, inspired Sparks to write even more (Bio.com). To help him cope with the tragedy, Sparks writes his next book Message in a Bottle.…

Critical thinking involves logical thinking and reasoning including skills such as comparison, classification, cause/effect, patterning, analogies, deductive and inductive reasoning, and planning. Whereas, writers used creative thinking involves creating something new or original. It involves the skills of flexibility, originality, brainstorming, modification, imagery, associative thinking, and attribute listing for forced relationships. The aim of creative thinking is to stimulate curiosity and promote divergence. Therefore, writers made use of “to think” to drag down the most important information for the essay ideas. Second, the word “to write” indicates to write down the writer ideas takes them from just a thought, into reality. The ideas must be organize in a certain way for the words to flow smoothly when the reader read it. Tools are also allows to be used to help drag down numerous ideas to possibly classify the topic and define it use and mean, from research such as internet, references from books, and experiences. Furthermore, the creative ideas also become expandable; readers will be able to physically see the idea, rather than just imagining it in their mind.
