I went to see Overture to King Stephen, Op. 117 and Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, both composed by Ludwig van Beethoven and performed by Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall on December 31 2012. The music group consisted of about sixty-three bowed string instrumentalists, ten woodwind instrumentalists, nine brass instrumentalists and four percussion instruments and the conductor is Esa-Pekka Salonen.…

As eighth grade started I told myself that I was going to make new goals and achieve them. One of my goals was to be in choir. I always thought and imagined what it would be like singing on stage in front of millions of people. I was always singing no matter what, from singing in the shower, in the middle of the grocery store, and singing in the car with my family. Nothing stopped me, definitely the day I got told news that changed my attitude about everything.…

On Tuesday, December 8th, the Allen High School Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed a variety of fascinating pieces. The orchestras began the concert with “Holiday Dances by Mark Williams". The next piece that the orchestras performed was “Saint Nick’s Canon on the Housetop” arranged by Carrie Lane Gruselle. The last piece that the AHS Philharmonia and Sinfonietta orchestras performed was “We Wish you a Merry Christmas” arranged by Lloyd Conley.…

Experiencing these 2 operas, I was able to comprehend the incredible talents of the Auburn University’s Department of Music Opera Workshop performers. Each performance allowed the performers to showcase their vocal talents greatly; as well as showing their strict practicing by knowing the vocal queues with the music as well as with each other to never sound off or un-synced with each other.…

The concert that I attended at Yale University on November eighteenth was called Symphonie Fantastique. During the concert, the band played Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, William Tell Overture, and Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique. The music was excellent and played with much expertise. Each piece was performed well. I enjoyed listening to the extravagant music with very few mistakes.…

I’ve heard a lot about Jon Nakamatsu, a Japanese American classical pianist who is the first American to win the gold medal at The Tenth Vancliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. That was the reason why I went to California Theater in San Jose on October 20, 2013 for his piano concert.…

On Friday, December 6th, I attended the Sac State Vocal Jazz Ensembles. The show began with special guests Christian Brothers Vocal Jazz. This young group of singers were extremely talented for their age. They held their harmonies and expressed their talents in each piece they performed. It was quite impressive and heartwarming because these students looked so into the music that it showed the passion they have for singing and vocal jazz. Following these talented young students, the Sac State Jazz Singers came on stage and did an excellent job at their pieces as well. I appreciated the song choices and arrangements for each piece. They definitely showed the hard work and practice they put into each piece and I overly enjoyed the show they put on. With all of the songs from both groups, dynamics, harmonies, unison, scatting, and different rhythms, especially in 4/4 time signature, were portrayed throughout.…

On March 4, 2012, the DuPage Community Concert Band performed American Titled Songs at the College of DuPage. They performed a total of seven songs. I really enjoyed this concert. It featured many instruments like the trumpet, tuba and trombone. It was different from the concert I attended for my first concert report because it did not feature any stringed instruments. Something I found very different and unusual was the lack of audience involvement in the performance. It was odd for me to have to hold back my applause until the end of the performances. This concert featured many upbeat and patriotic songs. I enjoyed it because of this reason.…

“When I first started here back in 2000, I was the only female conductor in the Suburban East Conference” recalled Marie Dymit. When she was in high school her conductor, Lee Carlson, was a male teacher but she remembers him always pushing her to do what she wanted to do in life. He fueled her passion for choir with the passion he put into his choir groups. He was her role model in high school and even now because he is a big part of why she choose to be a choir…

My desire to be a part of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is driven by a passion for performing music. Four years ago, with very little experience under my belt regarding music, I joined the Dracut High School Marching Band, not knowing the difference between the xylophone and the marimba. Little did I know that playing and performing music for myself and others would lead to who I am as a person now.…

    The Piedmont Choirs

The members of the Piedmont Choirs prioritize the tuning of the choirs above almost all other aspects of the music we sing. Some people I have sung with in choir have absolute pitch, which means they can identify or sing any given note without the help of any instrument, and a multitude of people I have sung with have relative pitch, which means they have some notes memorized. I was in the flagship ensemble of the Piedmont Choirs the year a choir I was in was the most consistently in tune. We spent that year preparing for a choral competition in Bratislava, and the training combined with our determined mindsets gave us plenty of payback by June. We toured through Germany and Austria before arriving in Slovenia. Our first day in Bratislava was also the first day of the festival we were competing in. That night, the festival began with a concert featuring all the choirs participating. We were notably excited to hear the choirs we would compete with and hoped to produce a quality first impression.…
