I. Introduction
A. This paper is will discuss the product development and the challenges that Research in Motion (RIM) faced in order to protect its intellectual property. We will also talk about some of the industry factors that influenced RIM with its decisions and course progression.
II. Challenges
A. In today’s digital world, intellectual property is the cornerstone upon which innovation and creativity is encouraged and shared. The challenges that many companies now face are that of patent, copyright and trademark infringement. We see it in everyday society. RIM faces an uphill battle as many new competitors are now on the battle field of technology. All of these companies protect their innovation and creativity with a fierce and competitive spirit. In order for RIM to survive they must fall in line with the others in order to ensure that their ideas make it to production without being siphoned off before it gets there. RIM is in no way defeated but they have been set back a ways and needs to climb out of the cellar. The factors that influence RIM and all others in this industry are continuously changing and will continue to become more and more competitive. This is good news for the consumer but terrible and bone chilling news for those who seek to innovate in the market.
IV. Conclusion
A. In this paper we talked about the challenges that RIM has faced along the way with the safeguarding of its intellectual property. We have also talked about the factors in the industry that have influenced RIM. We can see that RIM has not handled itself in the most efficient and responsible manner but even as it has faced these challenges is still a valid competitor in the field. We see that that factors that guide all companies in this venue will continue to change and with that RIM must continue to innovate, create and protect its intellectual property and ensure that no one can steal their …show more content…
