Four years ago when I first left my home and embarked on this journey to pursue a more progressive American education, I encountered the most arduous adversity of my life. For the first time in my life, I had to cope simultaneously with academic challenges, cultural shocks, language learning, and reorienting myself in a new social space. This preliminary study of cultural adjustments for international students in America has been a long-anticipated topic of interest for me since the very first day I arrived in America.…

Obstacles and hardships are what shape a person. One of my many obstacles I had to face was getting use to my freshman year in high school. Due to me going to an Early college my freshman experience may have been a little different. Transitioning was one of the most difficult parts of the whole experience due to me not being able to really grasp what I had gotten myself into. My teachers were very firm in conducting their teaching strategies. I can recall a moment in time where I had turned in one of my first papers for my English class I was so excited for her to read it because I had worked all night on it trying to perfect it. A couple days passed and I got the paper back it was so many read marks on it if I didn't know any better I would…

The biggest challenge for many of us is how to balance our studies, work and family demands. While we want happy fulfilling lives outside of family, work and school, we have to make personal sacrifices in order to be successful in life. Since time is precious, keeping a balance between three worlds can be a challenge. Fortunately, with proper planning, balance is possible. Every day, I have to make choices and manage my time incredibly well in order to be able to balance my online studies, my work and family demands. In my opinion family demands, work and studies balance are a process, not a static achievement. So, it is important to make the decisions selecting careers and jobs, timing children, allocating roles and responsibilities etc, that will provide the opportunity for balance. The real task of balance takes place on a weekly and daily basis, even from hour to hour .…

As an adult learning, returning back to school is quite a challenge. Managing work life and your home life itself can be a struggle. In an article “First-Year College Students’ Time Use, a study was conducted to examine relationships among first-year college students’ time use, academic self-regulation, and target and actual grade point average (GPA) at three time points. (Thibodeaux 2017). It was found that first year college students had lower GPA’s their first semester, than they did their second semester. One component stated in the article was Planning Time. It’s said that the more you study, the better you are to perform in your academics and your GPA will reflect this finding. The less you study, then you won’t be likely to succeed. As an Adult returning back to school, we’re basically like that first year-college student on campus. I have to really be focused and motivated about my education. I have to be motivated about succeeding in our studies. It’s important that each week I set aside a number of hours we are willing to commit to, and utilize that time for our course work. Yes it may be rough, dealing with work and home, but it’s a vital part of excelling academically.…
