Cerebral palsy is a condition in which permanent disabling symptoms are a result of damage to the motor control areas of the brain. Characteristics of cerebral palsy include abnormal reflex development, seizures, speech and language disorders, sensory impairments, bone growth, and respiratory conditions.…
The patient is a 70-year-old female who presents to the emergency room complaining of wrist drop on the left side. Her medical history is significant for COPD, dyslipidemia, hypertension and probably diabetes mellitus. CT done in the ED was negative. Her neurologic exam was negative. She was admitted inpatient to rule out a CVA. She was also seen in consultation by orthopedics who felt that the left wrist drop was most likely secondary to mononeuropathy, calling it a Saturday night palsy. She was put in the left upper extremity splint with a cockup wrist splint. MRI did show some cervical stenosis from C7-T1. Further history was elicited by the neurologist that the patient had fallen asleep on the couch the day prior to presentation…
In the PFP group, all patients had idiopathic PFP (Bell's palsy). The mean duration of illness was 3.40 ± 0.86 weeks (range 2-4 weeks), and their median HB scale was V (range III-VI). HB scale grade V was the most common grade present in 10 (40%) patients. The right side was affected in 16 (64%) patients.…

BELL'S PALSY is a NEURASTHENIA (muscle weakness) or paralysis in the face that begins suddenly and worsens over three to five days. This condition results from damage to the 7th cranial nerve, and is not permanent. Bell's palsy typically strikes men and woman between the ages of 15 and 60. This disorder affects about 40,000 Americans each year. It is also often seen in pregnant women, persons with diabetes, influenza, a cold, or other respiratory ailment. It has also been thought that Herpes Simplex Virus could cause Bell's palsy due to inflammation and damage to the nerve. There are many symptoms of Bell's palsy; some of them are loss of feeling in the face, loss of the sense of taste on the front two-thirds of the tongue, hypersensitivity…

Cranial defects are some of the most serious birth defects affecting children today, due to the potential for these birth defects to cause significant damage to the skull and brain. One of the most common types of cranial defects is a congenital malformation called craniosynostosis. In children born with craniosynostosis, the cranial sutures close earlier than normal, causing an abnormal growth of the child's skull. Cranial sutures are the joints separating each section of the child's skull which allow the cranium to remain elastic enough to accommodate normal brain growth. Unfortunately, when these sutures close prematurely, that particular part of the skull is unable to grow normally and will result in a misshapen head. Although the causes of many cases of craniosynostosis are unknown, studies have indicated that children exposed to certain pharmaceutical drugs during pregnancy may have an increased risk of developing cranial birth defects like craniosynostosis. Some medications may interrupt the growth of a fetus in utero, potentially resulting in severe fetal malformations like craniosynostosis.…
In Halperin’s depiction of the end of Michael Jackson’s life in his novel he recounts the major events towards the end of his career including; his 2005 child molestation trials, early allegations of child abuse, the mystery behind the mother of his child Blanket, his addiction to pain medications, his many illnesses and what really lead to the death of Michael Jackson. Halperin claims that he believes that the immense amount of greed from the people around Jackson lead to his death. In particular their high demand to force him to launch his 50 concert series in London drained him of his mental and physical heath. Halperin claimed that Jackson had been able to mask his deathly sickness behind cosmetics and sun glasses towards the end of his career at first; but the real volume of his illness came to the light as he prepared for his last and final concert performance in his life. Ian Halperin is best renowned for his many investigative reports and for having one of the worlds’ leading websites based on pop-coulter. He is a world-wide acclaimed documentary film maker and is listed in New York Times Best Seller List, and is the author of 9 popular novels. . The most ironic thing about the publication of this novel is that six months before its release to the public, Halperin had publically announced that Jackson would die within the next six months. His purpose for writing and publishing this book initially was to get to the bottom of the previous child abuse allegations towards Michael concerning his children; and Halperin indeed did receive praise for his success and tremendous research on the subject matter. Others claimed that his book was rushed, and set back by Micheal’s death just to be pulled off the shelf to revise its content and tittle. The appendix in the end of his book was heavily criticized for its lack of orginization and sloppiness of redundant…
Neurodevelopmental disorders are far reaching. They are caused by multiple factors and not just one. Many bring about additional needs demanding management which can carry out throughout the individual’s life. There are no fixed known symptoms of NDDs. Symptoms include physical, psychological, behavioral and cognitive; some NDDs can show a combination of all these symptoms together. If we take the example of cerebral palsy, the sufferer would have significantly more physical symptoms whereas the symptoms of ADHD will depend more on the behavioral side.…
From the dawn of human existence the effect of psychiatric illness is evident throughout the world. Billions of dollars are annually used for treatment purposes in psychiatry. From time to time different treatment methods are been adopted. However the outcome of such treatments is quite unsatisfactory. In brain sciences the problems we start hundred years ago are still unresolved and with psychiatry they become even more complex. With the advancement of science, researchers use multiple approaches in understanding brain and its functions. With all advancements little progress was made towards understanding brain or the dysfunctions associated with it. In the quest of discerning brain, the need is to teach young generation professionals, that…
The cerebral cortex is the outer most layer of the brain, and consists of a collection of nerve cells bodies made up from gray matter. The brain is divided into two hemispheres, and in order for communication to take place between each hemisphere the neurons talk to each other, and that’s called corpus callosum. A cool fact about a human cerebral cortex is that it’s larger than any animal. The cerebral cortex is divided into four lobes that also have the specific and different functions to each lobe, but they also have to all work together. The four lobes are called frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.…

This paper is about the neurological problems that could arise following the use of recreational drugs and substances from a neurological perceptive. In this paper I cover general categories of recreational drugs verses specific drug by drug classifications. I present this information with minimal consideration of the added complications of the interactions between recreational drugs, alcohol, pharmacological products, and predisposing or current mental and physical health. Keep in mind that I am presenting basic neurological implications of general recreational categories. Recreational drug use is a complex, multi-layered, multi-dimensional subject matter.…
