I, _______, agree that school officials should be able to remove student publications when they believe material is unsuitable for younger students, or for reasons it could possibly disrupt the educational curriculum. If students are allowed "freedom of speech" other students could be slandered indirectly such as what occured in this case or fights may ensue due to disagreements. Yes, we as Americans have rights to speak our minds freely, but most students are minors and are under the supervision of the school. The school has the right to control what is allowed within its walls and must moniter students' doings in order to ensure the safety and eduaction of all students.…
It was simple to me. The school newspaper is about representing the whole school, not individual students themselves. Both sides could agree that the students were presenting their own views, but then this is where the sides start to split. The minority believed that since the students were expressing their own views, that the Tinker standard should apply. But, this was not applied because the students are not suppose to use the school newspaper as a public forum for discussion. The school newspaper is suppose to represent the whole school, and not just those writers. Therefore, the principal was doing nothing wrong by restricting the student’s rights when he censored and prevented the release of the articles in the…
In this article the author describes the issues that resulted from the Common Core State Standards. The author’s purpose is to challenge the idea of the common core standards. This articles examine different approaches to how and why the standards have the opposite effect of what it’s supposed to do. The information I want to include is the information of reason how and why the common core standards don’t work, how they do more harm than good. The specific facts I want to use is how many schools struggle with the new mandates and many teachers have difficulty trying to cope and teach it. These facts in the article will give my paper authority given since it was schools and events of the common core standards. The article is different from other…
The title of my article is “Underage Drinking Laws Save 732 Lives per Year” by Ada Demb and Corbin Campbell. This article explains how law enforcement has cracked down significantly on under 21 possession purchase and consumption laws. It also explains the problems of drinking at the college level. The topic is a problem because way too many underage people are getting behind the wheel after becoming intoxicated and it is taking way too many innocent lives. The issue is complex because it will be impossible to prevent every single person who drinks from getting behind the wheel no matter what laws they put into place. One of my best friends was killed by a drunk driver when I was a Sr. in high school so I thought it would be a good idea to learn more about what laws have been passed to prevent as many people from possible from getting behind the wheel.…
case the principal refused approval to print. His reasoning was for the pregnancy article it mentioned birth control and sexual activity along with information from an anonymous source, but he felt readers would be able to figure out the person's identity. The divorce article was booted because it has a parents name. The court sided with the school because the newspaper is the schools (Brenyo). In this situation, the school does have the right to censor because it is their Newspaper, but they also missed out on an opportunity to address these important issues in a safe, professional setting and manner.…
The United States of America has one of the world 's powerful systems of legal fortification for freedom of the press. The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides the foundation assurance of press freedom and freedom of speech. In this essay I will be keen on highlighting the significance of the First Amendment and relating its motive of freedom to our country’s system of press freedom.…
I favored a loose interpretation in this case. Although students have rights, there is a need for certain rights to be restricted to avoid any disruptions and chaos within the student body. This is one case where I believe the school was using these restrictions properly to protect the rights and best interest of others. Even though the school newspaper is a form of public expression, the newspaper was school sponsored therefore it had every right to alter the paper.…
The congressman, Mcinnes, school principal, and Michael Anti all were involved in different situation of censorship and all have different views whether supporting or opposing censorship. The congressman who disapprove the violence in the television because he does not want children watching people fight or die, even though it’s not real. Whereas the principals from the schools enforced their disapproval of their school newspaper for its inappropriate topics. On the other hand, Gavin Mcinnes believed that people should be able to choose and decide whether or not to watch or read something. Michael Anti enlightens censorship of the Chinese internet and how censorship is used as isolation. The Supreme Court Justices ruled their case dealing with censorship as whether continuing the newspaper on school grounds articles be offensive or no newspaper. The Supreme Court is the mediator between supporting and opposing…
Censorship is the government is control the media, censorship can used to control or protect people. Some groups feel that books with objectionable material should be censored for many different reasons, such as sexual content, against a religion ,bad language, racism violence.I believe that books shouldn’t be censored because we have the right to read it,and it depends on your own personality. Therefore I intend to prove that the banning of books in schools is completely unjustified.…
What is the most important issue in this case? The most important issue to me is that the factor leading school children to take drugs. As everyone knows drugs are bad so that is the main issue. Speech advocating illegal drug use poses a threat to student safety that is just as serious, if not always as immediately obvious. As we have recognized in the past and as the opinion of the Court today details, illegal drug use presents a grave and in many ways unique threat to the physical safety of students. I therefore conclude that the…

Censorship is caused when books, movies, etc. are examined, and unacceptable parts are suppressed or the whole thing is banned. Schools nationwide have been banning books due to reasons such as racial issues, sexual explicit content, religious affiliations, violence, political bias, encouragement of “damaging” lifestyles, and etc. Often it is argued that banning books protects students from being exposed to inappropriate content, while others say that students should have the freedom to read what they want.…
The Constitutional responsibility of the press is to inform the public. The First Amendment comes into direct conflict with the rights and responsibilities of media coverage. There is a fine line between personal privacy and the publics right to know. The constitution overrides the option of privacy beside the amendment of freedom of speech or freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is to be guarded as an inalienable right of the people in a free society. Freedom of the press carries along with it the right to discuss, question and challenge the actions of our government and of our public and private institutions. Journalists hold the right to verbalize unpopular opinions and the privilege to consent with the majority.…

The first essay argues that the risk and threat from child pornography, and should not protect such speech. The second one argues about privacy and free speech from this issue. The only maximum disagreement that Dalton's private journal is protected or not by the First Amendment. First of all, issue about child pornography in the law. According to PROTECT Act of 2003, “Laws on child pornography are very strict with the harshest penalties in the world and often censored, but fictional child nudity and erotica is protected as freedom of expression if considered art, unless it is considered obscene” (Newitz, Annalee). U.S. federal government considers real child pornography is illegal, Fictional child pornography (unless Obscene) of possession, sale, production, and distribution are allowed protected, but above situations only apply to fictional things. Dalton’s case has conflicted with the key word “obscene” although it is fictional thing, and he shared it with a couple of people, it would be serious trouble. The first essay is stronger than second one at this point. Secondly, this issue with free speech and privacy. The free speech as one foremost and fundamental rights in United States. In liberal view, you can choose like it or not, but you don’t have to look at it either. For example, if there is a student’s speech can be ban because of its threat to other students, such case is not free speech. In fact, it is extremely difficult to decide what speech should be protecting and what speech should be limited to protect children. However, according to fundamental principle, real liberty that is one's freedom does not destroy the freedom of others. Unfortunately, most of people don’t deeply understand about that, they always use their moral values to kidnap freedom of others. Be that as it may, when is it suitable to limit speech? Whether the circumstance includes obscenity. It…
