Although land lines and cell phones serve the same main purpose of making and receiving calls they have a large variety of differences. Regular home phones are limited to the perimeter of the house while cell phones have the mobility to be taken and used anywhere. In case of an emergency, it is said the home phones are much safer since the cell phones rely on signals from antennas and depending on your location you may not be able to get a signal to make a call. Home phones have limited features such as call forwarding, caller identification, voicemail, and of course free long distance. On the other hand, cell phones have a wide variety of features including but not limited to text messages, Internet, camera, e-mail, and application downloads, etc. These cell phones are also known as smart phones or PDA's. Home phone lines are good for DSL Internet connection, home security systems and faxes. Personally those are the only reasons we have a landline in our home. Another difference between the two is pricing, depending on the type of cell phone and the data package that your phone requires they can be more expensive, while your landline has one monthly bill. Cell phones are such in demand that the local phone companies are now offering cell phone service in addition to regular home phones. While you can record music to your home phone's answering machine, a cell phone acts as a whole music system and can store hundreds to thousands of songs, depending on the memory on the phone. Add a memory card to your cell phone, another plus that the home phone doesn't offer, and this adds even more memory to your phone where music, photos, applications, contacts and much more can be stored. Once the memory card is removed, it can be used in another phone and so you won't lose your information.…

Cell phones come in handy during an emergency. First, if someone is driving and lands into an accident, most cars don’t have the “GM on star” button so they are most likely to use their cell phone to get help. Anyone can dial 911, and get the help they need in just a matter of seconds. Whereas if someone didn’t own a cell phone it would be very difficult to get help as fast. There are times where someone can be in a very critical situation where if they do not get the help they need as soon as possible they could potentially die. For example, if someone’s head got cracked open during the car accident they would immediately need help from the paramedics. Also, if there is an urgent situation, where you believe there is someone following you for example, and your life is in danger then cell phones are there as a tool. One can easily contact the police or a family member to seek help, and save their life. In contrast, if someone did not have a phone then the “stalker” has a better chance of getting a hold of you. It will make it hard for someone to escape a situation like this. Thirdly, cell phones also come in handy when you forget to inform your parents or friends about any new event coming up. For example, unexpectedly you have to stay after school to finish a test, and your mom and dad are not aware of it. Then you can use your cell phone to let them know. Overall, cell phones can be realistic in times of an emergency.…

The landline telephone is the service that I chose because it’s a service that is still on the market but is has declined to consumer appeal. Alexander Graham Bell invented and patented the first long distance landline telephone in 1876. It took 90 years after the first landline was installed to reach 100 million users worldwide. Although the landline has been around for a long time technology has improved over the years as well leaving the landline in the dust. The advanced technology has cause the landline telephone service to become obsolete. Several studies show that people prefer to have cell phones over landline telephones for the simple fact of convenience. The cell phone allows them to take their phones with them anywhere they go and never have to worry about missing a call.…

The telephone is one of the greatest inventions that we have. When they were first put into use, it took years to string all the wire necessary for it to become really convenient to use them. International calling came along later after some trial and error. It did not take many years until almost every home had a telephone. We should have known we were becoming addicted to them when we started having them in almost every room in the house.
