Cell Phone and Social Graces Have you ever talk to someone and they did not reply because they are busy playing on their cell phone? We all have that experience. We cannot blame on the cell phone because people are responsible for their behavior. In the essay “ Cell phone and social graces”, Charles Fisher elaborates on the use of cell phone and shows how careless, sometimes inconsiderate, and needy most people are when using their cell phones. Charles Fisher pointed out the negative when people are using their cell phone excessively; however, the cell phone is still one of the great inventions in history of human being. Cell phone brings more advantages to daily life of everyone than Charles Fisher thought. In the second and third paragraph, Charles Fisher admits that cell phone is amazing. Smart phones have many apps that help people a lot in their daily life. Cell phones have become a technological breakthrough over the years. They have been considered a necessity for emergencies and businesses when people are away from home and office. “ They add and subtract. They enable Internet stock transactions… They record videos”. Cell phone is not only can help people on doing math or playing music, it is also the best for emergency contact. According to the advantages that cell phones are bringing to us, there is no reason for not having it. However, cell phones have become handheld computer for the commodity of social media. This is where Charles Fisher mentions that the issues truly began. Although cell phone is incredible intelligent, they also create how rude people can be. The advancing technology of cell phone has also diminished the common customs and courtesies that were established by the generations, decades ago. People do not pay attention to their surroundings, which causes accidents; use indecent language that offends the older generations and even some younger ones, and they do not know how to converse with other with the correct etiquette.
