Celebrity Obsessed Kids: Young Kids Becoming Obsessed
If you asked teenagers or even children if they idolised a certain celebrity the likeliness is that they would say yes. However nowadays, a child’s obsession with any one particular celebrity has been taken to a whole new level… in fact it’s almost unhealthy.
Back in 2012 internet trolls took to Twitter to shave their head in support of the pop star being ‘diagnosed with cancer’. It all started when an edited screenshot of what seemed to be a tweet from the official Twitter account of Entertainment Tonight looked to be announcing that Justin Bieber had been diagnosed with cancer, urging fans to go #BaldForBieber. There was then an alleged tweet from Justin Bieber's official account, thanking Entertainment Tonight for their support. Now to most 'beliebers' this may seem as a very stupid way to show support and being one myself I agree. However, to a small minority that the media has branded as superfans, the prospect of shaving their head for Justin Bieber seemed like a great idea. I understand that Bieber's fan base is predominately pre-teen girls who, it could be argued, don't know any better, but what about their parents?
On the subject of Justin Bieber, another crazy Twitter trend began back at the start of 2013. Now unless you live under a rock you should remember when #CutForBieber was a worldwide trend on the social networking site. Internet trolls began to urge fans to cut themselves to stop the teen sensation from smoking cannabis. Again, where were these youngsters parents? And what lead young adults today to become so besotted with someone they have never met?
Sticking to my Bieber theme, there was another incident when the teen sensation began to date Disney Channel star Selena Gomez. Now I do not condone violence etc. of any sort but what happened was pretty funny. Wrong. But it did make me laugh a little. Superfans decided that it would be ok to send Selena Gomez death threats after pictures surfaced of her kissing their idol. Some examples of
