I am certain this class with help me in my future classes at CSU Global. Not only the writing skills we have acquired, refreshed in or improved upon, but also the APA citations and referencing. This is my first semester at CSU and I only took two classes as I work full time, but both provided me with many lessons I can use going forward.

The fundamental skills taught in the class while useful, were already known to me. Developing a thesis, organizing body paragraphs, and the closing statements of an essay are standard fare in most high school classes today. In contrast, what I gleaned from source documentation was incredibly valuable. It taught me to scrutinize where cited data comes from, weighing credibility and judging accuracy. These skills are quickly becoming important in an increasingly "wikipediaized" world. Both APA and MLA documentation formats were acceptable for the different types of essays.…

ENG101 has taught me the importance of using references and how using the proper writing guidelines can improve someone’s writings. Using references establishes that the thoughts and information that you are providing is accurate and true. When using the proper writing guidelines it helps one put their thoughts into proper order and make sense of what is being said. Using the guidelines also assists in making the writing process not so daunting, by breaking it up into smaller pieces. My writing goals for my next writing course would be to improve on the skills that I have gained while taking this course. I will use more references and the writing guidelines to make my writing the best it can be and not such a daunting task. I need to improve on using better grammar and spelling. I forget where to use commas a lot of the time. Overall, I feel that I did well in this course and learned some valuable tools to take with me to assist in other courses that I will take, as well as my working environment.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

When I first started out this class, my writing skill was a mess. In the past two months, I feel my writing skills had improved a little. This is probably one of the hardest classes I’ve taken mainly because of the formatting but it challenges me improved my writing skill. Starr is not an easy book to read, so it shaped me to critically think read between the lines of text. In the future, I’ll brainstorm and write an outline before typing out the paper and annotating what I’m reading. I find annotating and summarizing what I’m reading helps because I can go back to my notes and find what I’m looking for.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

This week I worked with the grant writing team to source potential funding opportunities in target areas and revise draft grants before submission. In the process of sourcing, I learned how to use the subscription services FoundationSearch and RelSci. Basically, this week involved a lot of reading and judgement calls. In particular, I was sourcing in the city of Chicago; I did not know how Jewish oriented the city is before this research. Ultimately, we found our organization to be more compatible with the foundations of for-profit companies such as AT&T.…
