Caved Rock Persuasive Speech
As I huff and puff and cry at the top of what is known as the “Caved Rock”, a small pigeon hovers above me and quickly drops it’s excrement on my sweaty and frizzy head. My stomach turned, every muscle in my body ached, it felt as if California’s drought was in my mouth, everything was horrendous. But I suppose I made it, I climbed the big “Caved Rock”; this was what people in the city described as a thrilling and life changing journey. They say you learn a lot about yourself and your companions along the way, it is suppose to be an enlightening trip;however, I’d be lying if I said that I learned anything about myself and felt some sort of enlightenment. I suppose did learn something; however, I hate physical activities--with a passion. But …show more content…
I was never an athlete, nor the outdoors man, I was the basement dweller that hated natural light and moaned every time I had gym class. But sometime inside me said, “Maybe you are, you just don’t give it a chance, you’ve rejected physical activities because you had a bad experience” I thought what could possibly go wrong to try. Trying something new never hurt nobody, maybe not permanently. I wanted to embody the outgoing and athletic kid that everyone loved at school, perchance that could be me …show more content…
I nearly scraped every exposed inch of my body on jagged rocks and protruding branches and bushes. I clawed and climbed my way up, hopping over treacherous logs and crawling through tree tunnels, I was on my last leg, figuratively and literally, my ankle got caught on a vine that sniped me as I hurled through. There I was at the peak of “Caved Rock”, and all I could do was attempt to gather myself together as I pant heavily. As my friends relish the moment with a loud harmonic cheer that echoed in the nearby trees, in my mind I could only think, what the hell was I thinking? There I am peering over the bluff, at the very top, a crystal clear view of the city beneath and the lovely river running by. The sun reflecting off the clear water, and the happy children with their parents swimming and playing water

Hey Xoe, please talk to your following about Standing Rock. More people need to know about what’s happening, because it’s horrible. It seems as though our native people are losing once again. Police are tormenting them on their land. I’m not sure if you know about what is happening, but I feel like it’s important to know, or to educate as many people as possible on the subject. A short summary of this situation would be that there is a an oil pipeline being put through the Standing Rock reservation in North and South Dakota. If you didn’t know oil pipelines have high rates of leaking which would cause the Native Americans living there not be able to use the natural water sources such a lake and rivers. The pipes also will most likely exploded,…

You have been doing the same climb for years. Scraping your knees on rocks, pulling through the brush. This was your favorite time to do it. Right as the sun was kissing the horizon of the sea, and the sky begin to let go of the night. It is colder than usual today, but you don't mind. The salty air pulls you forward motivating you with its sharp breath. As you come to the top of the cliff, you begin to see the glassy ocean lazily lapping upon a silver beach that seems to come out of a long, jagged cliff that disappears into the sea. You take a deep breath in and close your eyes, letting your imagination run wild. When you open them, the same familiar scenery fills your vision. You watch as an Osprey circles down the side of the cliff, and then it disappears into its jagged side.…

After hoping the fence to get to the trail to begin the ridged hike, birds chirped and you could occasionally hear a branch break deep in the woods. Walking up the narrow hill through the deep forest was my favorite thing in the world. I felt free and had no worry in the world. And the view at the top of the mountain was even better. The beginning of the hike for probably a mile is a very calm and nice walk, but it starts to incline more and more from their. The trail opens up to huge clear cuts. through one of the clear cuts is a perfect view of Enumclaw. as you pass the clear cuts the trail begins to narrow again. The trail begins to become very steep and lesser of a trail. Cutting through harsh terrain for s short time that led to the last…

My whole life since the age of 3 revolved around sports. I excelled in soccer and continued to play at the collegiate level. During my high school years I wanted to be the best player I could so I started reading fitness magazine and as much about nutrition as I could. The mountains were stone dark, secured with trees whose hues were a blend of woodsy cocoa, knoll, key lime, and margarita green. Scattered powder-puff mists gradually fled over the sky and the sun feed like a bolt. Seeing this made me feel like I inadvertently touched base to paradise. I breath gradually, attempting to recall each snapshot of me being encompassed by woodland, sky, and mountains. We began climbing the gigantic mountain, talking, grinning and chuckling together. After like an hour we sat down for a moment on an immense uneven and dusty rock close to the waterfall. The wind that blew through the trees into our confronts now conveyed a light sprinkle from the waterfall, and a clue of peace. The sound of the wind shrieking, the waterfall smashing against the stones and the fowls singing their wonderful tunes, made me feel considerably more joyful than I was at that point. We began moving to the top once more. My legs began to hurt yet I didn't give an indication of my torment. I raised my eyes to the sky, and my sight fell on the hawk who skimmed over the wind. At that time, I craved flying as well, over the mountains and over the oceans. I strolled slower now, thinking how brilliant it would be to fly, and the greater part of the…

I came from a family of really athletic people. My Mom and sister Kaitlyn both played softball from a young age and had many great accomplishments. My sister Kassidy played soccer from a young age as well. I have a lot to live up to. I started playing soccer when I four and I played for one year until I was no longer interested in it anymore. I started softball when I was five, and it wasn’t my favorite. I then retreated back to soccer for a few years. When I was in second grade, I cut my ankle on the bowl that my dog broke when I was trying to get cereal because I was hungry. After that I really didn’t want to play soccer anymore, so I decided to retire my soccer cleats forever. After this, I tried various different ranging from swim team to softball, and as you can imagine, softball stuck. When it did though, it came with my hot-headed personality showing. There was no way around it. I was also very independent, which could be a good thing in some cases, but as I got older I was required to do more group work. I just didn’t know how to.…

The sun shone vibrantly through the trees and I loved the way it complemented the gold leaves. I started to notice the incline to the top of the hill, it was steady unlike the Adirondacks where you go up and down. When I got to the top I saw a spectacular view of the surrounding neighborhoods and way in the distance I saw the buildings of Rochester. As I stood there I admired the pure beauty that lies so close to home. It is hard to believe that a wilderness like this one could be surrounded by suburban neighborhoods. Being higher up and in an open space I could really appreciate the mixture of golds, oranges and yellows it was different than being on regular ground level. I thought to myself ‘’I should do this more often, it’s peaceful and healthy.’’ I felt a certain peace with in me while I’m in the woods, suddenly my phone vibration broke my train of thought. It was my stepmom texting me to see if everything was okay, I replied yes and I’d be back at the trailhead in a short time. The leaves snapped and cracked under my feet on the way back and the crisp fall air made the not yet fallen leaves dance in the trees, it was getting later in the day. I was three quarters through the loop so I was still fine,I wasn’t…

When we started hiking down, I felt like collapsing. The trail seemed to never end. “I can do it,” I encouraged myself as I continued. Each step made my feet sting, but we finally made it to the bottom of the mountain. I collapsed on the soft, comfy, inviting seat of the car. Sitting down felt as pleasant as diving into a pool on a hot summer day. This hike was more important than I realized, I reflected on the way back. Instead of just proving Alay wrong, I had learned that if I tried really hard, I could achieve anything I wanted to. This was one lesson that I would remember my entire…

From the day I could walk, I was involved in sports. From playing tee-ball in the backyard with my dad when I was three, to trying three new sports as a senior, athletics have been an integral part of my life. In my elementary school days, I tried every sport that was offered through the Jefferson Parks and Recreation. This included baseball, football, wrestling, karate, soccer, and tennis. Through middle school, I dropped several of these sports to focus on my two favorite sports, baseball and wrestling. Training for these two sports never ended and most of my time was spent either on a baseball field or on a wrestling mat. Entering my high school years, baseball and wrestling were the only sports I competed in. By my sophomore year, I was…

Counting to eight as I slowly raise one of my leg to do a “ballet leg” in the water was something that 6th grade me never imagined doing. Tossing a ball up to serve and trying to keep the ball in play to win a point was another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing. What’s another thing that 6th grade me never imagined doing? Running with a pole down a straight path to get my whole body over a bar. So you can maybe already guess that 6th grade me wasn’t fond of sports. The reason why I just didn’t like sports wasn’t because I didn’t have an athletic ability or found it plain stupid, like most people do. The real reason why I didn’t like sports was that anxiety has taken over in me. Anxiety made me believe I didn’t have an athletic…

Attention Getter: I would like to start my presentation off by telling you all to ask yourselves a series of fairly straight forward questions. I want you to take a look at you’re, any hand and ask your selves “Who’s hand is this?” Do the same with your other hand, and now both legs and your arms if you would like. If I am not mistaking the answer to all your questions are mine right. They are your hands, legs, and arms. What I am trying to get through to you all today is that your body is your body and that a person should be able to profit of his or her own body if done in a safe and controlled way.…
