What are the causes and effect of concussions in sports? The head injury can cause a lot of effects like short term memory, memory loss and maybe discomfort. Head injury is common in contact sports like football, basketball, baseball etc... Concussions are not fun for anyone, especially if you have to sit out for the recovery process. “The international journal, Brain, published a study showing evidence of an increased risk of brain injury among athletes, who absorbed repeated hits to the head. The study, including brain samples taken posthumously from 85 people who had histories of repeated mild traumatic brain injury, is further evidence that even mild head trauma can result in long-term cognitive impairment (Amateur players need to beware of knock-on effect of concussion).” This shows the effects the concussion gives people depending on how they take it. “Of the

“The Harvard Crimson titled ''Shut Down Harvard Football,'' studies have shown that 70 percent of high school athletes with concussions play despite their symptoms, while college football players report only one in every 27 hits to the head they receive (Concussions and Youth Sports).” Some people don’t listen when they get a concussion, they just want to get back on the field as soon as possible. “High school athletes, particularly football players, have been found to suffer from post-concussion syndrome, chronic traumatic encephalopathy and other long-term brain injuries as a direct result of repeated hits to the head. So until Dr. Rothman and others provide concrete facts supporting their side of the argument, parents should continue exercising caution before putting their children at risk (Concussions and Youth Sports).” All doctors can do is tell the kids and parents to be careful, because they cant just get rid of the game everyone has a passion
