Rivera, Alexandra August 29, 2012

Summer Reading-“Catching Fire’’

The book”Catching Fire” is about a girl named Katniss Everdeen, who won the Hunger Games, and she is going to have to go in the Hunger Games all over again. The author for this book is Suzanne Collins, and the type of this book is fiction and suspense. The main character in this book is Katniss Everdeen. She is the winner of the Hunger Games because of her amazing skills on surviving. The people in District 12,which is her home, believes in her.She didn’t really change in the story, she was still her courageous self, but she was confused of who she is.Katniss does the right thing when she goes help Peeta while she was in the game.I can’t identify with her, because I have not experience what she’s been going through. The two characters in the book is Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne.Peeta is Katniss’s “lover” and helps her survive in the Hunger Games.Peeta also can be her “true love”,but in real life he does have feelings for her.Gale Hawthorne is Katniss’s only best friend in the District, and is madly in love with her. The setting of this story is taking place in the Hunger Games,a field with a lot of traps and has jungles, and a beach. But there is a force shield for the people not to escape. What I think about this place is that it is pretty dangerous, because your actually risking your own life and other people from different districts wants to kill you.But this setting gets pretty exciting, because Katniss is trying to survive and win again. What the author is trying to say in this story is that you have to depend on eachother. That is what Katniss and Peeta were doing in the story. When one of them were in the game, they help one another.Katniss’s lesson was to see who is the enemy. This is a story about love, depending on

For my independent novel study, I have decided to use Suzanne Collin’s Novel the Hunger Games; a story set around a teenaged girl’s firsthand account of gladiator-like sports in a post-apocalyptic era where North America once stood. The book creates a mood or sense of suspense and hope for Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist who has to fight for survival in the Hunger Games. This reminds me of and relates to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding. Where in his novel, a group of boys are found stranded on an island in the middle of nowhere and must fight for their survival as well as hope to be rescued. Katniss, just like the boys, finds herself trapped in an arena with other tributes, but instead of joining up with them she must fight them to the death in order to survive. She also has hope for her family. That her mother and younger sister Prim are surviving without her being able to care for them by hunting and providing them with a proper meal.…

Have you ever been taken away from you family and friends? Been forced into a game where to stay alive is the only way to win? That is what the hunger game is. A violent game that 24 contestants are chosen to fight one another to the death and the winner will never have to work again and is provided with riches beyond their wildest dreams. Two contestants, a boy and a girl, are chosen from each district. This is what Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old, awkward girl had to go through. Now, Katniss did not get picked like most contestants do. No. She volunteered to go in. I know what your thinking, "This girl is nuts!" but Katniss did it for her little sister Prim, who did get chosen at the age of 12. Beacuse of the hunger game, she has to leave behind her whole family and her best friend Gale. By the authors description of the times that Gale and Katniss meet an their conversations, you can tell there is a little bit of a love intrest between the two characters, however Gale was not chosen to participate in the games. Peeta was. Peeta was a handsome young boy that Katniss knew from a long time ago. Throughout the games Peeta develops feelings for Katniss. Now because every year the cruel game is aired on live national television (so the kids families…

The Hunger Games is a novel written in 2008 by Suzanne Collins about a dystopian future of what was once known as North America, now known as "Panem". The totalitarian nation of Panem is divided between 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games; Part entertainment, part brutal retribution for a past rebellion. The Capitol selects a boy and a girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each of the twelve outlying districts to compete in the annual games, a televised fight-to-the-death. The novel is centered on Katniss Everdeen — a 16-year-old girl from District 12, who volunteers for her 12-year-old sister, Prim Everdeen, when Prim's name is chosen — and her male counterpart Peeta Mellark whom she has some rather dramatic history with. They are pitted against one another and bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.…

The book I read is Hunger Games Catching Fire. The author is Suzanne Collins, the genre of the book is Science Fiction. Catching Fire takes place in a futuristic community that is divided into Districts. District 12 is the one the main character Katniss Everdeen lives in. Katniss is a brave girl who is in her late teens. An example of Katniss being brave is when she crawls under an electric fence to get food for her friend Gale’s family. Kaniss is also very caring. Katniss shows an example of caring when Gale gets whipped and she carries him back to her house so his mom can treat his wounds. The conflict is external and it is person versus society. The conflict is when they are in the arena for the battle and Katniss and Peeta have to fight…

My favorite character for most of the story was Katniss Everdeen, the beautiful, spirited tomboy. I could really relate to her like I could no other character in the book. I admired her for taking care of her little sister and especially her mother. I too, had to be the parent child in my household when growing up. I was not surprised at all when she took the place of her sister, the underdog, in the Hunger Games. Because I too, have lost someone close to me, I knew that hunting not only fulfilled the purpose to feed her family but that it helped her to cope with the death of her father, whose bow and arrows she cherished. My best friend during my teenage years was a guy named Brian, so it was easy for me to understand the relationship Katniss shared with her best friend Gale; the good looking guy that the…
