Casey Neistat's Life Explained In 27 Seconds

In a short film called “Life Explained in 27 Seconds,” Casey Neistat explains how he views living in this world, “life is like going the wrong way on a moving sidewalk, walk and you stay put, stand still and you go backwards, to get ahead you have to hustle”. If you know legendary filmmaker Mr. Neistat you’d know he’s all about motivation and this quote says it all. In this essay I want to share someone who is no stranger to experiencing hardships because of bad choices. He does not view his past choices as mistakes, instead he views them as milestones that got him to where he is now. He panicked of course because he could barely take care of himself with the condition he was living in. So, his first instinct and a right one at that, was to apply to as many jobs as he could. Most teen fathers cower in the sight of a positive pregnancy test but not him. He realized that it was time to take charge of his actions and support the mother and his new baby. Shortly after, he dropped out of high school and begun to look for work, which wasn’t easy. Not a lot of places wanted to hire him because he was a high school dropout. Finally, he landed a job as a dishwasher in a seafood restaurant that payed eight dollars an hour. He was now twenty years old and recently dumped by the mother of his child. He wanted more out of life and went to New York to pursue his passion of filming and editing. The idea of moving was the easy part, but when he arrived he was flustered and without a plan. Plus, he was missing his now one-year-old Owen, who lives with his mother in Connecticut. For the first week in New York city he got a job as a bike messenger. This is where he met an artist named Tom Saccs who gave Casey a different job as a studio assistant for ten dollars an hour and gave him a place to stay. This was a big deal because now he could set aside a hundred dollars to see Owen three days a week. When he started to feel secure financially he started to focus on making short movies. A lot of people seemed to like it especially HBO which offered him just under two million dollars to buy all eight episodes.
