Case Study Of Sew What? Inc.
In a world where information technology (IT) is both important and imperfect, organizations and individuals are faced with the ongoing challenge of determining how to use complex, fragile systems in dynamic contexts to achieve reliable outcomes (Butler & Grey, 2006). This is true in small businesses too. Sew What? Inc. lacked the knowledge of the support IT could give to their business and contribute to the overall operational processes of tracking. Recognizing the importance of information technology for their operations, business organizations continue to invest in IT infrastructure and management (George & Khoja, 2012) Once it was brought to the attention of Megan Duckett, she realized how important it was for her company to expand their …show more content…
Inc., case regarding business value of information technology (IT) that is demonstrated are the ability to expand her customer market, provide advanced customer service and tracking of the company expenses. Megan Duckett was able to expand her company market once she developed an advance website for her business as she had a larger marketing target for customers to view and request her services and products. This took her from just an US market to an International market. The IT system allowed her it provide advanced customers service by asking questions that would help her know the exact type of product the customer was looking for and gave them the options online to select the material and colors available. Another example is the ability for her to track the companies turn-around time from when the customer places the order to when the product is finished. This gave her reliable information on how long their processes were from one stage in the production to the other and how much the customer should be charged. IT systems can provide as much information as a company wants or as little just depends on the programing and the maintenance of the system.

IT provides many ways that a small business can use to grow their company. First, it can be used to develop advertising by a simple web page that doesn’t cost much to create which tells about their services and products. Another way would be to help develop systems needed internally to eliminate overhead cost such as developing programs to track labor cost, material, shipping, and other company expenses. There are programs that can be designed to track the company’s bottom-line expenses or provide customers with information needed about the company. For instance, I was at the salon yesterday, and was thinking about how IT could make improvements for my hairdresser alone since she rents space at the salon which all the hairdresser does at this location. First, the salon itself could develop a webpage that gives the hours, services available, introduce the hairdresser with their specialties, and a place to make an appointment with a certain person. My hairdresser tracks all her appointments on her iPhone, so if they developed a program it could automatically send the information to her iPhone calendar as the two programs communicated with each other. This would also allow the hairdressers the opportunity to see how much time it really takes per customer depending on what they are having done and a way to track the amount of money they
