Kudler Fine Foods is a local upscale specialty food store with three locations in the San Diego metropolitan area. Kathy Kudler, founder of Kudler’s, opened the first Kudlers Fine Foods in 18 June 1998 opening the second location in 2000 and the third in 2003. Kudler’s three locations consider itself without direct competition (Apollo, 2011, Strategic Plan, p.3). Kudler Fine Foods provides domestic and imported fare at every location, everything from bakery and pastry products, fresh meat & seafood, fresh produce, condiments, packaged foods, cheese and specialty dairy products (Apollo, 2011, Strategic Plan, p.3). “Kudler Fine Food’s mission is to provide our customers the finest in selection foodstuffs, wine, and related needs in an unparalleled consumer environment” ( Apollo, 2012, Our Mission). The competitive strategies I recommend for Kudler Fine Foods is to strengthen the consumer’s satisfaction with customer service and product. The survey indicated that every year the consumer satisfaction has gone down. Kudlers need to concentrate on the consumer, such as the cost of goods being worth the money spent. With a satisfaction less than 50% it brings an opening for competitors in the market to come in with lower cost of product and better customer service to take them out of the game. Although Kudlers mission statement is respectable it need to be followed by action. Forecasting the company’s future and any possible interferences that may arise can prepare the firm to have strategic outlines to address and find a resolution for. By having a strong grasp of what is current in the industry and economy, i.e. inflation, exports, imports; Kudlers can reduce the level of uncertainty for their investments.
