Through the Pumped For Post Secondary mentorship program, I have been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto for 2 years. I have attended two Pumped For Post Secondary mentorship programs, one located at George Brown College and the other at the University of Toronto, St. George campus. These programs allowed me to learn multiple skills and available options for a student entering post-secondary education. I have gained through the presentations and mentors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters the ability to budget, write a decent resume, properly conduct an interview and stress management. I was encouraged to speak with others and now am able to confidently speak my mind and interact with others more easily than before. This is a massive step from me, because I am a shy person and would get scared of new people as they were strangers to me. I learned that although post secondary can be stressful and difficult, there are always people there to support you whenever you ask for help. High school to post secondary is an exciting transition that can be daunting from its newness but it does not have to be terrifying.
