The main reason was that there were only three minority teachers out of 18 main teachers; this did not include the aids and other staff. There was also no other heritage celebrated except for the traditional celebrations. Most of the African American students I met had not been born and raised in Blackwood, and those who did, did not know much about our heritage. I previously lived in Camden, NJ. I was use to having elaborate African American history Month activities, and I was use to learning about my culture during class. Here this was not the case. My eight grade class established the first Black history Month celebration. The textbooks in Blackwood schools had very little to deal with the African American experience in this country. The only time that anything close to our history was addressed was during February, for black History Month.…

Based on Kozol’s report, the social and racial inequities in America’s education system is quite evident. Though not explicitly stated, Kozol warrants that schools in predominantly white neighborhoods are more likely to have sufficient funding, while schools in poor and minority neighborhoods do not. In South Sacramento, my home town, both Kozol’s claim and warrant are made manifest. Like almost all cities, there is an upper class and a lower class area. South Sac’s…

This case is all about a well reputed commercial television station named KCCB, which was famed for its local programming and news; fell back on schedule of airing a documentary which was misplaced. This was the leading station until a year ago; KCCB had the highest concentration ratio from the entire industry, but later on they tended to feel that they are losing the game sluggishly as the competitors carry out all sorts of tactics to improve their base in order to attract more viewers. So to overcome this and to regain its position KCCB thought of producing a completely new documentary with a dissimilar perspective. This was called “Daddy, I Want to Play Football”, a sentimental story of an 18 year old cancer victim; this was conducted by Jack Hawkins-the sport producer for KCCB.…

Smith the principal started implementing inclusivity into every classroom. This meant that the entire staff would have to be up-to-date on procedures and aspects of students different IEP’s and needs as a whole and eliminating the process of pulling students out of the classroom. Some of the staff was resistant to the process as the school was producing student achievement levels that were in the high 90’s De(Matthews, p.1015). So why change the process if the school was producing high levels of success for all students in a school district that is otherwise failing to live up to standards? Mrs. Smith would just tell them that it was in the best interest of all students to implement inclusion into the classroom (DeMatthews p.1015). This meant firing teachers who produced good results, but were not willing to move towards this inclusive program and hiring the teachers that were the best fit for the new program. Mrs. Smith made it a priority that teachers attend meetings and get involved outside of the classroom. These meetings were more teacher driven than administrative run, meaning that leadership and voices were spread out throughout the meetings. Throughout the year it was noted that teachers grew more confident as leaders and took charge for making positive changes in the classroom for all…
