Carrier Narrative: A Teacher's Success In The Classroom
Carrier Narrative

I would make a great elementary school teacher, because I want to help children learn and have fun at the same time, I’m a good listener, I have experience with young children and I have a passion for teaching.

In my opinion teaching is very much like cooking, you follow the recipes and add in your own touch. Cherry Patten asked, “What Makes a good teacher? Like all good recipes, the ingredients for a teacher's success in the classroom are simple, easy to follow, and allow for personal interpretation, to enhance the result.” She's saying, yes, teachers have standards and a curriculum they have to meet, (the recipe.) but with every recipe you have a chance to put your own touch in, to make a lasting impression. Teaching is undoubtedly an extremely demanding role to take on and as the quote by Donald D. Quin suggests, few are able to understand the pressures and stresses that this line of work brings. However, despite the intensity of this type of career, many are still filling up colleges and universities on training courses to do exactly this. Tony Buzan’s opinion above sheds light on maybe just a part of what drives people into assuming such a manic position in society. Training is a major part of becoming a teacher and all need this foundation to become the great teacher that they…

According to Gravells (2012) in order to be a successful and ‘good’ teacher it is essential that you teach your specialist subject in a way that will actively involve, engage and encourage your students during every lesson. It is also important to remember that it is not just the teaching that takes place within the lesson but it is also crucial to focus on the learning. There are a number of different ways to describe what being a good teacher is however instead of just creating a list of what a teacher should be…

Different students have different perspectives for a teacher. Some students guess teachers should be rewarded and some others students do think so. The teachers have to try to figure out how to teach every student the same way. They have to sum up how to teach every student but try to amount what helps them understand the lesson. Not every student learns the same way they all learn a different way. Teachers can give different ideas to students to make them learn the lesson better.…

The person I interviewed is R. Wilkinson and she is an educator. She has been in education for 25 years. She started teaching at P.S 268 in Brooklyn and now P.S 52 in Queens. Mrs. Wilkinson was a para-professional and then merge into the education field as a certified teacher. She currently teaches a 2nd grade ICT class. She prefers 2nd grade because it is a grade she’s more familiar with and she knows the curriculum like the back of her hand. She also taught 4th grade to which she also enjoyed but, there is a very big difference. 4th grade is a testing grade and can be very strenuous she says. Mrs. Wilkinson has always dealt with children as far as having nieces and nephews and being very hands on with their upbringing. She has worked…

As a teacher one should keep themselves to a higher standard. Teachers are responsible for shaping the lives of the future. This is a large task, and requires a strong commitment to excellence. Each teacher must decide what rules and guidelines they will set for their classroom, and should expect nothing less, and most likely more, out…

Have you ever had One of those teacher’s? Do you know the type I mean? That amazing teacher who always went the extra mile to help you figure out the solution to the tough problems, or even the one who always seemed to make the problems that much tougher just to mess with you. In my experiences I have had both, and if I were to choose the type of teacher that had to teach my children I would want the teacher who went the extra mile. The teacher who believes that all students have the ability to succeed and become members of the elite. The teacher who helps students to learn to think for themselves not just act like parrots and repeat the information verbatim. Teachers who teach hands on and get the students interested…

Many educators view teaching as organized, purposeful and deliberate efforts designed to bring about certain desirable ends in an individual. Garcia (2000) states that a teacher must know what teaching is because his concept of teaching will guide his behaviour and his own interpretation of teaching that becomes essential to his performance as a teacher. It serves as high guide as well as direction in every classroom work to achieve effective teaching-learning process.…

“I don’t see color! I don’t have a racist bone in my body!” (Irving, 2014, p. xi). How many times have we heard something similar to this or said it ourselves? I know that I have heard it many times by people of all ages. So far this semester, I have learned so much about race, socioeconomic status, history, and poverty. I have been around the world and see poverty in my own backyard along with poverty on the other side of the country. I have always thought of myself as pretty knowledgeable on these subjects but I have found there is so much I do not know. I also have learned that as a teacher we really have to be aware of ourselves and our stereotypes so we don’t bring them into the classroom.…

What makes a good instructor? There are lots of factors, which determine the answer to this question, and one of the most important aspects of being a good teacher is, I believe, the teaching strategy of a teacher. I think that teachers play a very important role in molding the career of a student emotionally, technically and intellectually. A good teacher is a person who works with a single powerful goal in mind: working for the best interests of all the students, which help them, succeed socially and academically. I certainly don't agree with the statement made by Dunny that a good teacher is just about knowing the curriculum and forcing the stuff on the students without taking much interest in it. I think that…

The rain had been falling all day. I grudgingly canceled the tennis game I had planned with my doubles partner Jackson, changing out of my tennis whites with a sigh. I tossed my phone across the room, and it landed on my desk, on top of a pile of folders, binders, and nearly unused school supplies. I had just graduated from high school the day before, and hadn’t gotten around to cleaning up yet. “Well, since I have nothing else to do,” I thought, I shrugged and started placing piles on my shelf. This wasn’t the best system, and my things were already disorganized, so inevitably the top shelf spilled its contents onto the ground. The first thing I went to pick up was a ripped green folder, stuffed to the brim with papers. When I sprang it open,…

Teaching cannot come about until one has learned how to teach, but what truly is a teacher? I have found that teaching goes further than demonstrating how to “do things” and is more about showing how to “live things.” In life a person continuously learns and grows and the same goes for a teacher; they are constantly shaping and reshaping their ideologies. From these ideologies a prospective teacher forms a philosophy of teaching that will guide them through the years of paper grading and parent teacher conferences to come. My personal philosophy of teaching consists of many techniques that I hope will stay true as my time as a teacher lengthens.…

As someone rightly said, a good teacher teaches from the heart and not from the book. So, to take up a job as a teacher one must have passion for the subject he is teaching so that he can pass the same passion to his students. One of the important roles of a teacher is also that of respecting a student's opinion. A teacher must always be open to learn new things and he must keep himself updated with the latest developments in his subject.…

“Good teaching is a skillful blend of artistic and scientific elements. Teaching as an art involves beliefs, emotions, values and flexibility, while teaching as a science utilizes instructional practices that are proven by research to improve student achievement” (Snowman and Biehler, 2006). According to (Peters, R.) teaching can involve formal methods of instruction as well as informal ways of organizing things so that children will be led to discover things for themselves. According to (Manning, H. 2003, p. 11) “A teacher is the one to impart knowledge to students in different ways to assist learning.” Teaching factors are considered if something must be accomplished. It is practically stating that teaching is what is being taught, who is being taught, by whom it is being taught and to how many individuals on a daily basis. The act of teaching is accomplished by preparation of the designated teacher. The teacher therefore must be thoroughly educated.…
