An event planner is a planner who plans events such as festivals, ceremony’s, competitions, parties, concerts and conventions. Event planning involves establishing dates, and alternate dates, reserving event sites, and coordinating transportation. Event planning also includes developing a theme for the event, arranging speakers and arranging the decoration, table, chairs, tents etc. This career deals with a lot of communication. Being an event planer you are faced with deadlines and communicating with people. This line of work is considered fast paced and depending. Event planners spend, most of their time in their offices preparing for events. When meeting with a client, work is usually at the location where the event is taking place. An event planner spends a length of time preparing for an event so that it might be a success. Working on weekends is required because that’s when many of the events take place. In order to become an event planner the education requirements are having a bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public relations, or Hospitality. One or two years of experience are required. Strong verbal and written communication is required and providing customer service. Must be a good Problem Solver and have great organization skill. Knowledge of a computer is required as well, being able to network using social media. The expected salary for an event planner in the United States is between 47,000 and 64,000 per year. There are no training requirements for an event planner, but there is training for an event planner to handle all the pressure and work efficiently.
Employment for an event planner is expected to grow 44 percent from 2012 to 2020, the need for planning events are expected to grow. Whether it is for a conference or a small weeding reception for 30 people, there’s on thing in common “Planning”. This career is related to my major in communication.
