Cardiovascular System: Blood
Cardiovascular System: Blood
Laszlo Vass, Ed.D. Version 42-0007-00-01

Purpose

Explain why you did this lab and what if any safety precautions needed to be followed.

For this lab I had to prick my finger, then with the bleach solution I had to dab it and then carefully drop the blood on the slide. Once I was finished I had to take the second slide and smear the blood. I had to let the slide dry. Then I had to prick my finger again and make 3 more slides. Then I had to mix the chemical with a toothpick and then look under with the microscope.

Because I had to prick my finger I had to make sure the pin was cleaned with alcohol and burned, then I rubbed an alcohol swab on my finger. I made sure the slides were also clean. I didn’t allow anyone to touch my slides, and I soaked them in bleach before cleaning them.

Exercise 1: Observing Your Own Blood
Observations

Sketch and describe what you saw on the prepared slide of human blood:

I really couldn’t see much of anything on my prepared slide of human blood, it was just full of a bunch of pink dots/cells which were also not very vivid.

Sketch and describe what you saw on the blood smear slide using your own blood:

Much like the first this blood had a bunch of dots and blobs I couldn’t recognize. However this one was much more vivid and I could see the outline of the cells.

These are one of the smallest cells in your body, they are round with a dent in the middle, we call this shape a Biconcave disc. The function of the red blood cells is to transport oxygen from the lungs to the body cells. A red protein called Haemoglobin, when the blood reaches the lungs, oxygen diffuses from the alveoli to the red blood cells and combines with haemoglobin forming an unstable compound called oxyhaemoglobin. When the blood reaches the body cells, the oxyhaemoglobin is easily split into oxygen and haemoglobin again, the oxygen diffuses through the blood plasma to the…

This is the midterm scenario in which we were told to describe what we think happened here. Due to the lack of information associated with the crime scene and information on the length, width and depth of the bloodstains it was very difficult to analyze. I think I may have figured out what happened. The victim Ms. Williamson was attacked in her kitchen, but the murder took place about ten to fifteen feet from the front door parallel to the table where the body was found. The perpetrator was attempted to clean up the crime scene, though unsuccessfully.…

    Analyzing Blood

Analyzing blood is the worst part of the job to me. It is one the main reasons why I might not pursue this specific career in Criminal Justice. I can’t deal with blood because it affects me mentally. I can talk about it, but the sight may make me nauseous or I could faint, especially if it’s a large amount (pool stains). I could sit and watch the most gruesome horror movie and eat dinner while watching it. However, I do feel I may get over that hump like if I talk about it more and the repetitive experience through the job. I searched around the web and found a few interesting facts about blood splatter analysis. I also found a video explaining blood splatter and its relation to the murder case involving a hammer in Arizona. I will post the…

The Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) provide detailed information regarding the functionality of the software. These requirements are based on the intended uses detailed in Appendix F and the Safety Critical Requirements detailed in Appendix G. A variety of tools are available for use in meeting these specifications. In general, the data dictionary for specific files provides a great deal of control through the data type, pattern matches, and input transform requirements. However, specific algorithms have been included in the software routines where appropriate and Kernel Security and Menu Management provides additional tools (i.e., menu access and security keys for meeting the specifications). As with the file structure and the rest of…
