The face of hip-hop is one that changes almost every five years. Every four to five years we see a distinct change of sound in the genre creating room for up and coming artists to make an impact in the industry. From what we’ve seen as of late, the era of Soundcloud rappers have taken hip-hop by storm generating new talent almost every day. Few of the artists have been able to separate themselves from the pact, making them some of the hottest newer acts in the game.
While we know acts like Drake, Kendrick, and Future have cemented their status, what about the next wave of artists? Acts like Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black, and Dave east are examples of the diverse sound that we see today. When Cardi came to fame through social media, a lot of people were hesitant to take her seriously when she announced she would be pursuing a rap career. For me personally, I thought when she first came out as a rapper her music was hot garbage. Fast forward and 100 million YouTube views, and a Billboard top three hit with "Bodak Yellow", she's proving that we need to take her seriously. One thing that Cardi has shown since entering the industry, she's willing to put in the work that many of her peers won't.
I was hesitant to make the claim at first, but "Bodak Yellow" has managed to turn into the song of the summer. The control that it has over people when the music comes on is undeniable. At this point in time, Cardi can legitimately be considered the hottest female rapper in the game. Now that she has the attention of everyone in the industry, it's time to see if she can do it again. Cardi is without question one of the top trending artists out right now.
