Cannelton High School Narrative
As I mentioned in previous chapters, I had at one point in my school career gone to Cannelton schools. However, it was at this time that I had exchanged schools. Back in Cannelton, we went to the high school building after 5th grade. This caused me to technically be a middle schooler a year earlier than most others.
My 6th-grade year was what I had thought, what I had hoped, high school would be like. We had more freedom than most and were able to get soda for lunch. My school also had a game room that we were allowed to go into after lunch, if out our grades were good, that is.
But, when I came here, it was nothing like Cannelton. We didn’t get the chance to go out at all. Going outside was my favorite thing to do. Unfortunately, here at Tell City Jr/Sr High School, by school rules, you are not permitted to go outside until 3:05.
Back at Cannelton high school, I had always been allowed to go to the

My first day on the bus, I met a very important person to me. She would soon become the closest friend I would ever have. We shared a name, the interest in video games, and the hobby of drawing. But, other than that, we were very different. She liked white milk and hated chocolate (a.k.a “tainted milk”). I was the opposite. I enjoyed the company of dogs, she was obsessed with cats. But, differences aside, we enjoyed sitting together during lunch and just doodling all over each other's agendas and notebooks. We never really had any classes together, aside from homeroom together. After our 7th grade year, we had more classes together. We didn’t have homeroom together, but we had history and Reading Renaissance together. We would hang out after school and spend hours upon hours watching Youtube videos and doodling random adventures for characters we liked. We actually rewatched an older movie, and somehow made a horror movie into some comedic

Williams Elementary School is located just off of interstate 75 and home of the mighty Eagles. From the outside it has the appearance of a typical school with screaming students, rushing parents, and screeching buses. It is made out of boring brown bricks and beige stucco boarding near the top of the building. The inside features a prison-like setup, only with more vibrant colors. There is a double door leading into an office with multiple faculty and staff. In order to actually enter the school, you have to be buzzed in by the round and hyper man at the main desk. Once in the building, you will see that it is shaped like a large square with hallways extending from four sides. The hallways are full of colorful painting of eagles, laminated…

For the past two years, on the 1st Monday of the month I have participated in Site Council meetings at my high school along with other Associated Study Body (ASB) members, our principal, school administrators, parents, and teachers. Frequently it was brought up that minorities were not as involved in our school as majority groups. ASB has always been dominated by white students and as a Latina, I found it very intimidating when I joined.…

We are very fortunate to have an alternative campus in our school district. Shannon High School is for students that have fallen behind in their credits, have dropped out of school and have decided to return to school, or feel like they do not fit in at one of our main traditional campuses. Shannon classes are small, and students have the opportunity to be successful and earn their high school diploma. Tammy Wright is one of the wonderful teachers at Shannon High School. Ms. Wright is a business and marketing teacher at Shannon as well as a school aged parent coordinator on campus. Furthermore, Ms. Wright serves as an advisor to the student organization, DECA. It was a pleasure to sit down with Ms. Wright and ask her a few questions about her…

It’s the first day of 8th grade and everything was normal, the bus ride was the same as the year's previous ride. High schoolers were yelling at the little kids to sit in the front of the bus and the elementary kids yelling at each other across the seats. The closer the bus got to school the colder I got. I was pulling my sweatshirt closer around me to try to get warmer but that wasn't working; It was like the cold was under my clothes seeping into my bones.…

From that moment, we talked more and more, and I was not shy with her. She was a good student, but I was not. Afterward, she always asked me to go to library with her, and we enjoyed many stories of literature such as The Finkler Question, Lolita. Moreover, she helped me to deal with math assignments. When I understood, we solved together a problem in order to find who had the shortest and fastest way. Also, she helped we to improve my English from speaking to writing. We would speak English if whenever we could. Then, I got an A in math class, and I knew I was going to have a good friend. After we spent a lot of time to study and relax. We went to study together because ouchouses were near. Sometimes we went to the places that we liked. For…

During my sixth grade year, my best friend Jesus and I met two people who would later become two of our closest friend. Their names are Cesar and David. Two years after we met Cesar moved away and would visit whenever he could. Every time Cesar would visit Jesus, David and I would go to the movies to hang out. Jesus and David were always the more active and spontaneous ones in the group while I was more calm and thought out than them. Cesar was somewhere in the middle, being calm yet very active when he wanted to be. The movie we watched was never really important or memorable, the theatre was a location where we could go for a few hours and hang out without parents over our shoulders. I don’t really remember most of the movies we went to watch,…

Before we start our story, I will give you some background information about myself. Don't get me wrong, I used to have friends. I still remember middle school like it was yesterday. My best friend Mikey and I used to spend every day after school together. We would pig out on licorice and play video games all night. We used to tell each other everything. On the last day of grade eight, we planned a huge sleepover. We went to the grocery store down the street from where I live and bought lots of chocolate, chips, soda, skittles and licorice. We walked quickly past freaky Bob's house and had our daily greetings with my old neighbour Helen. She had a huge, welcoming house and I had been visiting her ever since I could remember. Her snowflake white hair, beautiful smile and friendly voice made me always look forward to visiting her after school. When Mikey and I arrived back home, we instantly started playing video games. I beat my high score in a new game I had just purchased and I was overjoyed. I had been saving up my money for five months to buy it and I absolutely loved it. Mikey and I laughed and played and had the time of our lives.…

I have this friend from elementary who is exactly the opposite of me. I also don’t know how on earth we became friends but probably because she was friends with everyone from our class. She was outgoing, adventurous, super confident, and fun. On this particular day that still lingers in my memories, we were together first thing in the morning as we, with the whole class, were waiting for our teacher to arrive to class. As usual kids, we played games with the others on the school grounds: patintero, agawan base, marco polo, jackstone, 21.…

My best high school experience would be graduating. Me graduation was the highlight of my teenage life. I was happy to be leaving high school and beginning a new chapter in my life. I was excited to step into adulthood and be independent. Of course I mentally prepared myself for what was to come and I was more than prepared for all the challenges I would face with being on my own and starting college. This would be my first year in college and I can say that everything has been going pretty good. There has been some up and downs along this new journey of mine, but I really can’t complain. I am on the road to success and I know my parents couldn’t be any happier. I hope to someday accomplish my dream of becoming a pediatrician and working with children. I feel proud of myself for coming this for and I’m glad to say that this is just the beginning. All of this wouldn’t have been possible if I wouldn’t have graduated high school so…

Lisa initially was my sisters’ friend although we shared small talk when she came over to our house. Over time, we realized that we shared many similarities which drew our acquaintance toward friendship. Lisa and I both enjoyed eating pizza with orange soda; we shared many of the same opinions about teachers and students at our school which always seemed to lead us toward a moment of laughter. My sister, Lisa and I hung out as a trio quite often. We did homework together, had sleep overs and did girl stuff. When Lisa and I were not together, I would find myself bored not knowing what to do. We would call each other to talk about simple things like what we were going to wear to school the following day, or what our plans were for the upcoming weekend. Once the weekend rolled around, we were watching movies together or walking around our neighborhood chatting about our lives. At one point I remember our parents telling us we spent too much time…

We talked about what we did over the years and we also played some games. It was time to go to sleep and we needed to sleep in one of my cousins’ bedroom. The next day we were planning a nice picnic at the park. We packed up sandwiches, soda, some fruit, and my favorite tacos. We went to a park that had buffalos, ducks and sheep. We set up the picnic under a sort of a house. While the grownups were setting up, we played on playground.…
