Canadian Tire Store Case Study
1. There are multiple key actors at the beginning of this criminal event. For a criminal event to take place, three things need to take place which is a motivated offender, a suitable target and a lack of capable guardianship (Carleton, 2017a).
Here, we have a motivated 38-year-old Vancouver resident who committed multiple crimes in order to steal firearms. The suitable target would be the 52-year-old Canadian Tire clerk who was innocently victimized by the violent actions of another person. These two participants would likely overlap for a few reasons. In a Canadian Tire store, a clerk needs to unlock a cabinet before customers can buy them. The offender knew that in order to get the firearms he would have to interact with a store employee. Likely, the second the clerk opened the cabinet, the 380-pound motivated man attempted to overpower the targeted clerk by stabbing the clerk. This would have rendered the clerk from being able to functionally patrol the unlocked firearms, which would be considered the lack of capable guardianship to this criminal event.
The police officer who was stabbed in the torso and head while trying to arrest the suspect would have also been considered a victim as well. The police and the offender interacted because they wanted to subdue the man and prevent further

They may have done this for reasons because they didn't want to get involved or want to talk with the police. Since the crime was in a populated public place witnesses may innocently walk by and think nothing of it. They may have also thought that a lot of other people were around and it was being dealt with, which can be called the bystander effect (Dewall & Myers, 2015). In addition, bystanders can also make investigating harder and some information could be withheld. This could prevent a case from being solved or future arrests from being

There are many forms and definitions of the concept victim found throughout the criminal justice system, and it important to both understand the notion for which it is applied along with the proper analysis for how it is used. The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, defines crime victims as people who had a criminal offense committed against them (Schmalleger, Hall, & Dolatowski, 2010). The Federal Bureau of Prison (BOP) classifies a victim as someone who has experienced direct or threatened physical, emotional, or financial harm as the result of a crime (Schmalleger,…

Thirty-seven witnesses and none called. All with a different excuses. The right choice would have been calling the cops. Is it that we put so much responsibility in other we forget our own? The proper thing to have done would be as follows: call the cops as soon as possible, stay where you are and scare the person away as much as possible. And just hope for the best. You won't be getting face to face with the criminal which is a secure move for both you and the victim. You won't be accused since there are no cameras to show you ever even laid a finger on victim, no fingerprints to show any sign of accusation, you called the police so you won't be accused of being an accomplice. Nothing to fear, just serving as a proper civilian of the law.…

In the “Dying Girl” article about the death of Catherine Genovese, all of the 38 witnesses and neighbors did not take action because they didn’t want to take responsibility. As Police Lieutenant Bernard Jacobs says, “People told us they just didn’t want to get involved, they don’t want to be questioned or have to go to court.” When witnesses were questioned they said things such as, “[The police] might have picked me up as a suspect...”. The witnesses decided that stepping in wasn’t worth it, that possibly saving someone’s life. In “The Moral Dilemma In Witnessing Acts Of Violence” by Michel Martin, states that bystanders faced a dilemma when caught in a situation where a stranger needed help. Martin says that many bystanders stay indifferent “under the theory that the act of bearing witness is its own moral act”. Martin suggests that simply being a witness is an act in its own, and that in itself should be enough. These bystanders in both scenarios didn’t want to deal with the repercussions and extra work with dealing with the situation, so they decided to not act at all, leaving someone who was in dire need all alone. In Martin Gansberg’s, “38 Who Saw Murder Didn’t Call the Police,” was about a young woman had been fatally stabbed. Catherine Genovese was the woman who was on her way back from work when a man had come up to her and stabbed her. The man had not killed her on the first stab or the second stab but finally the third stab was the fatal blow to end her life. The attack lasted over 35 minutes and over 38 people watching the poor woman getting stabbed. No one even thought of calling the police until the women finally died. After the police were called, they started to ask the neighbors what they saw and some did not want to talk, but then a man, who was Miss’s Genovese’s neighbor, who stepped forward and confused to seeing the murder happen before him. The police had questioned the man that if he witnessed the murder why didn’t anyone step forward and actually call the police to report the incident, knowing the man was at fault he didn’t have a direct answer. According to the police they were indicating that if a call was made that the women would probably still be alive. Something that really shocked the cops was that all those who watched the incident, no one decided to call and report it. The article was to show that not everyone does the right thing, people have fear, and people do not want to get involved.…

The victim in both situations is the individual who is directly affected by the crime weather it be their property that was damaged or their body that was hurt, they are in essence the victim.…

All over the world, people are pronged to become victims of an offense against themselves or their property violating them. Most of the time people decided not to report the offense to a police officer for many reasons fear of their lives, embarrassment, loved one hurt him or her, and are not citizens. While not reporting the offense to the police department it only creates more numbers for the National Crime Victimization Survey department to report instead of the Uniform Crime Report that the police department provide at the end of every year. The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 stated that the word victim “means any individual against whom an offense has been committed” and the best…
