can food drive experience
The service learning experience was based on focusing the elements of project planning, such as setting goals, distributing responsibilities, surmounting obstacles and others. Our team decided to do a can food drive. This particular Service incorporates all aspects of our humanity, instead of just the physical need at hand. Love, justice, compassion, action, presence, and understanding is what made this experience very enjoyable.
We had a positive experience within our team. Canned food drives are a great way to help any charitable organization that works with the homeless or families in need. Although they are most popular during the holidays, canned food drives provide assistance that many people and organizations need all year. Planning and organizing a canned food drive was a great community service project. We knew it was necessary to set the goals for the team and define the boundaries in which we worked.
There were key elements that helped us reach our objective, we were all willing to participate in team's activities. Each of us had common purposes as to why we chose to donate. We were able to come together on meeting dates where we discussed ways to obtain can goods from family, friends, and coworkers. We made sure to include efforts from the side of every member. We had a minor disagreement as to what company we chose to help service but we then possessed a common vision and became focused on the same objectives. Each team member took an active part in direct implementation of the plan we developed. There were some important norms in creating and maintaining team effectiveness. Some of them were each member participate in discussions about our service plan, attentive listening, consensus decision making and freely expressed ideas.
We chose to donate to Faith Tabernacle church of god which happens to be a predominantly African American church in Southfield MI. Sadly 50.1 million Americans struggle to put food on the table. More than 1 in 5 children is

They have seven programs that simultaneously educate the community about the hunger problem in Georgia, and they also make sure that people throughout Atlanta are being fed. These seven programs include Atlanta Prosperity Campaign, Atlanta’s Table, Community Gardens, Hunger 101, Hunger Walk/Run, Kids In Need and Product Rescue Center. I had the opportunity to participate in two of their programs, which were the Hunger 101 program and the Product Rescue Center. I was first introduced to this organization by volunteering for their Hunger 101 program. This program was very enlightening, and it inspired me to make a difference in my community. This program entailed an interactive group session that educated the volunteers about the hunger problem in Georgia. The volunteers participated in a workshop where we were given the role of being a less fortunate person for a day. We were given this person’s income, how many people lived their house, and all the expenses that they had to pay for. We had to use those values to calculate how much money that person has to spend on food per day. I discovered that most of these people had no more than three dollars to spend on food for their whole family in one day.…

Each team member will begin with their own preconceived ideas of the goals and the ways to reach the goals; coming with their own experiences, beliefs and opinions. By creating the goal and the steps to achieve the goal as a team in the beginning, everyone is on the same page. The other thing that I would suggest is to encourage healthy debate over the…

My next solution came from what we have discussed this week which is the “Hawthorne studies”. I remember the quote that my classmate Hugh had posted: “If everyone is special, then no one is”. We may be able to use positive recognition and remove the negative feelings towards each other. For instance, when the candidates are chosen, I would phrase it as “You three are handpicked from hundreds of candidate. We feel that only you guys are qualified to make this mission succeed. I believe by making them feel that they are the only ones that can accomplish this goal, they will work as hard as they can to make their groups come together. This will eliminate the difference they feel towards each other’s believes and also expand into trying to convince others to work together as well. As more people get on board with the idea, we can form sub teams under the leaders of the team and inform them also that they will now be the “special” bunch that need to spread the word among the public about how important it is to be part of this project and make it work. This will eventually have a ripple effect. The pro about this project is that it will bring people together and eliminate the differences. The cons would be that if anyone realizes that they are not “special” and everyone is “special” , then this effect will fade. Therefore, other incentives can be added which is discussed…

Being active in National Charity League for six years, I have had the pleasure of working with many different philanthropies, my favorite being The Tualatin School House Pantry. Operating out of the basement of a church, the food bank helps to feed families in the community who are struggling financially. While my first few experiences at the food pantry were emotionally challenging, I found them to be very eye opening. I met many people from different backgrounds, yet they all shared the same hardship, the inability to afford food for themselves and their families. Wanting to do more for the recipients, I received training to be one of the personal shoppers.…

Some really effective moments when we worked as a team was when we had to organise the fish and chips and when we had to set up for the quiz night, we all stuck together and set up the hall in under an hour. I think that at the end of the event once we had counted how much we had raised, we all felt proud of ourselves at what we had achieved and this really showed as we were excited to let our guests know how much they had helped us and the charity.…

Once a month, our organization, Ketchikan CPOA helps the local Salvation Army Soup Kitchen prepare meals, serve and clean up, I have dedicated three years of monthly service to helping plan, prep, and cook and serve the citizens of Ketchikan, AK who need it. This service has had a profound effect on my life. The most memorable time I can recall was my first time attending the soup kitchen. I enjoyed meeting the staff at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, working with my fellow Coast Guard men and women to prep the meal, and to meet the patrons who attended breakfast that day.…

The place that I decided to volunteer at was the St. Thomas Church Pantry. The purpose of this service is to get food to people who have fallen upon tough financial times. One business skill that this group needs to keep the food pantry running is marketing skills. One of the struggles that food pantries have is not getting enough food donations of items they need. So, the leader of the pantry must ask for donations of the items that they run low on. This also means that the volunteers at the Pantry must take inventory on food items to ensure that they will not run out of certain food items. Also, they have to have a volunteer schedule just like most businesses this is to ensure that at least two volunteers will be working during the two days of the week that the Pantry is…

Volunteering may take time, but it isn’t the only way to lend a hand. The Food Bank of Delaware offers many opportunities for people to do other tasks besides actually volunteering. If there isn’t much time, one may donate money or food. Also, packaging food is not the only service work the Food Bank of Delaware provides. There is a backpack program in which backpacks are given to kids in need of food during the holidays or whenever school is not in…

Volunteering is an excellent way to give back to society, and there are many organizations that strive to help those in need. Organizations such as The Salvation Army, American Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels are just a few of the many volunteer associations that try to make people’s lives better. The Meals on Wheels association is best known for delivering meals and providing health checkups for elderly individuals in their homes. Senior malnourishment is a largely unaddressed problem in America, and Meals on Wheels is a great organization that tries to provide solutions to the situation. Meals on Wheels is a volunteer organization with a wonderful purpose that requires a small number of skills from its members so that they can give back to…
