Camping: State Parks
Camping Technology

Could something designed to make life easier end up ruining everything we have worked to preserve? Technology can sometimes be quite controversial. In my major, I have found that it can be almost more of a frustration than a blessing. In most industries, technological advancements are viewed as a positive step towards efficiency and economic growth. This is not always the case, however. In the camping industry, for example, the constant “improvements” are often a source of frustration to many die-hard campers.
When people go on vacation they generally have a common goal, which includes relaxation, adventure, and escape from the stress of their everyday life. They often want to spend quality time with their family without distractions. Camping is an exciting and affordable way to get all of those things. For a relatively low price you can pitch a tent at a State Park and “get back to nature”-- at least that’s how it used to be. Unfortunately times are rapidly changing, and camping, as it was intended, seems to be a thing of the past.

To illustrate my point, I would like to paint a picture of the typical State Park camping experience. Pretend you are a vacationing middle class businessman from down state wanting to take his family on a camping excursion “up north” over his two week summer vacation. In order to spend a night in one of Michigan’s beautiful State Parks, there is a simple procedure that everyone must go through. First, you must dial a toll-free number, 1-800-44-PARKS, (or use the internet to make a reservation at http://www.midnrreservations.com ) up to 6 months in advance to your pre-planned date of arrival. Spontaneity is overrated anyway. After you dial the number you have to type in the first four letters of the park that you wish to visit. At this point you will be connected with an operator in Maryland who will help you pick out a site number that will suit your needs from a park she’s never seen before in a state she

We are considered fortunate to live in the world that we do today. Material things seem to be bountiful, science and technology simply keeps on advancing, and we are all busy and hard at work in school or making money to achieve certain things in life by whatever means. In particular, science and technology has introduced so many significant inventions and conveniences to society that we cannot help but feel that we need to have these things. The products and services out there being advertised and sold are glamorized to appear faultless so that our attention is drawn to the benefits. Unfortunately, there are drawbacks and the fact that these inventions and conveniences are supposed to be quick and helpful could be a mere myth. This might lead one to ask if all the things we think we need to help us are really conveniences or merely burdensome.…

Camping and being in the outdoors has been a significant part of my life for the last eight years. As a child, I never enjoyed it much. Three years ago, my family along with four other families decided to take a trip to Glacier National Park. The sky-piercing mountains and the beautiful lakes urged me to explore the outdoors more. From hiking through the mountainous trails to driving up the mountains through the Going-to-the-Sun road, I finally began to realize the relief and soothing sense that nature had to offer. Despite the love I finally found in the outdoors, I was never the dedicated and…

"More than 305 million people visited national parks in 2015, eclipsing the all-time visitation record that the National Park Service saw in the previous year." (United States National Park Service). More and more people are becoming interested in seeing the natural beauties of the world, proving the benefits of national parks far outweigh the cost. The government should continue to fund and support national parks, such as the Grand Canyon, because of the benefits they provide, including a vast history, economic help, community support, protection for plants and animals, a healthy environment, physical exercise opportunities, as well as promoting mental health.…

I looked at Chase and Tyler Becker and said, "Let's go camping." As Chase pushed down the gas pedal, a big cloud of black smoke shot out of the back of the truck and the smell of burning motor oil filled the cab.…

Whether choosing to spend a few days at a hotel or camping in the woods there are always memories to be made. Hotels are usually located near popular visitation sites, such as: Cedar Point, Michigan Adventures, or Universal Studios. It doesn’t matter which hotel you stay in, what happens outside the hotel is normally where the memories are made; unless it is a resort with a connected waterpark or casino. Surely at hotels you may receive free continental breakfast and housekeepers to clean up your mess. But hotels can also be a bit pricey and boring when it comes to family vacation. Vacationing in the great outdoors is mesmerizing, with plenty of free activities for the family. Campsites are ideally located near rivers, lakes or streams and come at a comfortable price. This makes it easy for families to enjoy the outdoors, swim in the water, kayak or just play tag; this also saves money, keeps the family together and keeps everyone…

Beautiful ladies, handsome gentlemen, silly boys and girls of all ages are never too young or too old to go a few hot summer days and cool breezy nights out camping with close friends and supportive families. It also does not make it appropriate to take an elderly, curious and clumsy grandparent. While camping, it is appropriate to make sure that everyone who attends is healthy and that there are also convenient supplies such as first aid, food, water, and shelter accessible to everyone.
