Camp Counselor Personal Statement
Working with people is what I am passionate about. Two summers ago I had the incredible opportunity to be a camp counselor. My favorite part of that entire experience was watching as each of the girls in my cabin began to see what they were fully capable of. There is something so satisfying when I watch as someone improves his or her life and I was a part of that process. This is one of the primary reasons that I am interested in a career in recreation and leisure services. I want my career to be one that creates communities where people feel welcome and safe.
In addition, I have always enjoyed traveling and tourism. There is something so enthralling about adventuring to a new place and discovering what it has to offer. Every year my dad’s side of the family goes to Sunriver, Oregon. I remember being young and each year, we would make it a priority to find some new place to explore. We would go hiking on trails and through caves, and whitewater rafting down the Deschutes River. Those experiences have instilled within me a sense of adventure.

And each week we would be exhausted as we finished pulling everything together, but as we watched the students participating and loving the activities that we had created, all of the work was worth it. Looking ahead to working in the field, I can see this enthusiasm for creating experiences for people transferring into my

I am prove that “DECA is preparing emerging leaders and entrepreneurs to be college and career ready”. Leadership, marketing, communication, and many other skills that DECA provides, are used in an abounding amount of careers. When I first joined DECA I knew I was outrageously introverted. I also knew that I had a passion for the study of the human body. As I learned more about what DECA truly is, I knew that DECA would help me reach my goal of attending medical school. Many people think DECA is strictly for students with an interest in the field of business and entrepreneurship; however, DECA means so much more. My DECA experiences have taught me how to lead a group, sell a product or idea, speak clearly, meet new friends, and many other skills…

It has always been my goal to obtain an advanced degree and licensure in counseling. However, being a working single parent, I decided it was better to prolong my entrance into graduate school to allow my two younger children to have as much of my time and attention as possible to devote toward their growth and development. Out of all of my activities, DECA is the most important to me. From conducting market research, managing employees for our DECA chapter’s frozen yogurt business, and learning how to speak before a panel of judges, the skills I’ve acquired from the organization have been invaluable. DECA has been my largest time commitment than the others, and for good reason. No other activity has allowed me to gain business skills and offered opportunities that have allowed me to compete on the international level. After I graduate, DECA will be the activity that leaves the deepest impression on…
