Linux Software [rtlsdr.org wiki]

Linux Software
Options for free software in Linux are:
GNURadio [http://gnuradio.org/redmine/projects/gnuradio/wiki] is an excellent but unwieldy piece of software for use with RTLSDR. It's the only software for now that will receive analogue (FM, AM, sideband) and digital modes such as AP25, FSK and ADS-B. Be warned it's not very easy to drive but if you are canny you can use it to build your own software defined radio. Follow the build guide for your Linux system as the latest code is always the best to use.
GQRX [http://www.oz9aec.net/index.php/gnu-radio/gqrx-sdr] apparently does too.
As SDR# [http://www.sdrsharp.com] is written in C# it works with Mono in Linux!
Have a look here [http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr#KnownApps] for a good summary of Linux utilities.

Getting SDR# Running in Linux
This has only been tested on a x64 Debian system using the combined current stable/testing repositories but the process should be similar in Ubuntu and Fedora/Centos.
Install mono and monodevelop. This is the Linux version of Microsoft's .NET. sudo apt-get install mono-complete monodevelop

Install libportaudio2 to make sure sound works. sudo apt-get install libportaudio2

Compile and install the latest RTLSDR. I used the cmake version as detailed here [http://sdr.osmocom.org/trac/wiki/rtl-sdr#Buildingthesoftware]. Don't forget to run ldconfig as root at the end to sort the newly installed libraries out.
Download the latest SVN copy of SDR#. svn co https://subversion.assembla.com/svn/sdrsharp/trunk sdrsharp

into the new sdrsharp directory and then load monodevelop and open the sdrsharp.sln project. If the .sln doesn't open use a text editor to open the .sln file and at the end of the first line change the 12.00 to 11.00. Older versions of monodevelop don't understand the VS2012 header.
Set the Active Configuration from Debug|x86 to Release|x86.

A radio signal is an electromagnetic wave propagated by an antenna. Radio waves have different frequencies, and by tuning a receiver’s radio at a specific frequency, you can pick up a signal, because the starting point, or direction of the wave changes. An interesting aspect of radio waves is that each wireless technology has its “small band” available.…

Terrestrial radio channels can be broadly classified into two groups: those that operate as local area networks (typically spanning 10 's to a few hundred meters) and wide-area radio channels that are used for mobile data services (typically operating within a metropolitan region). A number of wireless LAN products are on the market, operating in the 1 to 10 's of Mbps range. Mobile data services (such as the CDPD standard we touched on in section 1.3), typically provide channels that operate at 10 's of…

    Brownie Camera

The Brownie was an inexpensive camera made by Eastman Kodak that was introduced in 1900. The need for the Brownie was simply intended to be a device where people could photograph and document their surroundings. The new camera had replaced the Celluloid Photographic Film, invented by Reverend Hannibal Goodwin. Then, the Brownie produced a type of stability in the ebb and flow of the modern flow of newspaper, getting personal images of people’s life, and even a form of art. In substitution to the missing camera, I would make a mechanism that would increase people’s memories to the extent that they have photographic memory and capture the picture in their head.…

    Analog vs. Digital

AM/FM stations are transmitted and received through air waves in the analog form of radio. Analog, meaning continuously varying, represents a band of frequencies that are similar, yet different. For example, imagine a clock with a second hand that continuously moves clockwise, smoothly, without the familiar tic-toc sound. That clock represents an analog system. Digital radio, also known as satellite radio, is also transmitted and received through air waves. However, the audio sound is now represented digitally, meaning that instead of a continuous band of all different frequencies of air waves, each station is now accounted for numerically. This enables satellites to magnetically transmit audio data from one point to another, from one satellite receiver to the next.…

Nadine Strossen is the authors of “Everyone is watching you” an article that its main purpose is to alert readers how our privacy rights are been violated by surveillance cameras. The article in general informs the reader of the topic right from the beginning with the title which explains a lot of the matter to discuss. The author introduces the topic very clear with the example of Eric Blair the author of “Big Brother is watching you” and how this caption relates to the matter. I have two reasons to believe that this article will not captive’s people’s attention. First, it does not give a lot of examples on the matter base on what the majority of the citizens live style is. Second yes, the article puts the problem out there but it gives no clear solution on how to fix it.…
