Cam Lyman Research Paper
We all have peculiar family stories that have been estranged from familiarity, often for a good reason, but the story of Cam Lyman is one that surpasses all in utter obscurity. Although the tale only brushes my family indirectly, it is so fascinating, so shocking, that it has never been forgotten. Lyman was an informal man of many traits: a millionaire, dog breeder, and unsanctioned transvestite. She was already very unusual on her own, but the most unusual thing is her gruesome murder that occurred on my family’s farm, which is still a mystery unresolved. Although it is quite remarkable, the case has been forgotten by society, like many enigmas, and I want to put Cam’s story back out: his/her background, the disappearance, and the murder. Greg Siner was walking about the grounds when he “noticed a stench as he walked by the septic tank of his ambling old Victorian home” (Press). He looked in only to see a skeleton floating in the waste. This skeleton was the remains of Camilla Lyman. She had been shot in the head and thrown in the septic tank, weighted with cinder blocks. No one knows who killed Cam, but the most likely suspect is George O’Neil, her groundskeeper and ‘friend.’ He inherited her fortune, and possibly, that could have been the motive. Camilla was certainly eccentric, but I admire her for her courage; she wasn’t afraid to be herself and do what she loved. It reflects so negatively on society that at first, the story was a major concern, and once the case hit a wall, no one cared. Society is an impatient child, who quickly gets bored and frustrated with a challenge. I hope someday, someone solves her murder mystery, she deserves to have her case closed. If only some small discovery could be made, something to spark interest, to put her back in the spotlight, then maybe, with today’s technology, a conclusion could be
