Caged Bird Figurative Language
“The dark never seems that dark when it’s finally light.” I heard these words being sang from the mouth of a very close friend of mine.. I believe he was talking about hope, and how you can use your past experiences to get yourself through your troubled times. Emily Dickinson and Maya Angelou also used their art to convey similar meanings. The works “Hope is a thing with feathers” and “Caged Bird” both talk about similar topics and use similar themes.These poems use figurative and literal language, talk about hope and how it gets us by, and talk about the songs that birds sing. Both are beautiful works and the similarities and differences are very complementary to each other.
Both poems talk about birds, however one uses figurative language and the other uses literal language. “Hope” is The Thing With Feathers uses a lot of complex, figurative language. For example, the stanza, “Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -”, has an underlying meaning to it. Dickinson is not saying that hope really has feather, or that it perches in the soul. She is making the bird out to be a metaphor for hope. “Caged Bird” uses a lot more literal language, …show more content…

Remember that there's a bird inside you, singing you into the light. Remember that it’s not all bad, and good can be found in every situation. Remember that the good times are on the way, they're just running a little
