CC.11-12.R.L.3 Key Ideas and Details: Analyze the impact of the author’s choices regarding how to develop and relate elements of a story or drama (e.g., where a story is set, how the action is ordered, how the characters are introduced and developed). During the first mini lesson the students will be analyzing different popular television shows and novels in young adult fiction, and what choices the author made in relation to theme that made it popular. What sells versus what doesn’t? How do those themes relate to the real high school experience? CC.11-12.W.3 Text Types and Purposes: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences. This standard will be assessed during the classroom peer review activity. The students will be having one-on-one discussions on their paper; both what was good about it and what needs improvement. The students will not just be assessed on how well they are at giving constructive criticism, but also how well they are at receiving it.
CC.11-12.L.2 Conventions of Standard English: Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. This standard is demonstrated in students’ final drafts of their papers. Part of the grading criteria is whether or not the students used proper spelling and punctuation in their assignment.
