Directors owe a duty to Nordstrom to advance its legitimate interests when the opportunity to do so arises. Directors may not take for themselves a business opportunity (or direct a business opportunity to a third party) that is discovered through the use of Nordstrom property, information or position, unless Nordstrom has already been offered the opportunity and determined that it will not pursue that opportunity…

Nordstrom uses extremely sophisticated inventory and product life-cycle management capabilities to move products through its channels in half the time of Macy’s or Saks Fifth Avenue, cycling through each season’s new fashions more efficiently and effectively than its competitors. This is a major factor in Nordstrom’s consistent ability to outpace its rivals in profit margins and EBIT as a percentage of sales.…

Nordstrom’s employees and management are the company’s most valuable resource. An article written in the Seattle PI describes exactly why this is true. It states that, “Nordstrom salespeople make decisions as if managing their own business; they are trusted to do what is right. Everyone else in the company is there to help the sales staff make the sale and please the customer” (Mulady, 2009). The way the employees are treated and valued is a perfect portrayal of the company’s mission of providing the best possible customer service and value to the customer.…

With two distribution offers by very prominent high-end national chains, Asmuns Place, a leading fashion specialty store for both men and women, and Levine’s Menswear known for professional service and high-quality men’s fashion, an excellent opportunity presents itself for Canada Goose to expand. However, Reiss has to decide whether these offers are aligned with his other objective of maintaining the premium brand image which has been built over the years. Partnering with these national chains has caused some concern for Westbrook’s Downtown, and the other independently owned retailers as they fear they will not be able to compete with these large national chains if they chose to heavily discount any of Canada Goose products.…

How else can Nordstrom continue to provide exceptional customer service and increase brand loyalty? Nordstrom already provides outstanding customer service and this has a profound affect on increasing the loyalty of their customers. In order to provide or offer exceptional customer service it is imperative that you understand that customer service is about acquiring positive attitudes. This starts with the attitudes of the company’s staff and how it is geared in terms of reacting with the stores’ customers. This can be achieved by simply smiling when talking with a customer in the store, or adjusting your tone of voice over the telephone while engaged in a conversation. A friendly greeting when customers approach a representative really makes the customer feel appreciated, and also giving that customer your undivided attention when they are dealing with a concern that they may have within the store. Overall common courtesy goes along ways in relation to excellent customer service.…

    Nordstrom Strategy

    2. Because Nordstrom operates in the mature industry it has to try to manage industry competition. The main competitions for this chain are: Niemen Marcus, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue. This market is tricky as they are all seemingly offering the same products at the very same price! Nordstrom has taken the route of using their people and their enthusiasm for service to enhance the customer experience and make all the difference in gaining a competitive advantage. The average employee is upbeat and an absolute joy in their soliciting of a particular purchase. When you have such a nice dialogue with a representative you almost feel as if you have to buy the item! Another strategy of Nordstrom is their return policy. They are specialized in the shoe department offering returns on shoes bought in their store forever! That means one can theoretically use a shoe for 5 years and then decide he doesn’t want it anymore and come and return it. The other retailers do not offer this service. Nordstrom can offer this because they possess a Nordstrom Rack store where they offer many refurbished shoes for a fraction of the price. This gives them an immense competitive advantage as a customer who is unwilling to commit to the comfort of a pair of shoes, is given the theoretical option of buying the shoe and if it doesn’t break in correctly, they can return it. This makes their customers come back again and again.…

    2. I think that Nordstrom’s new program is slightly more productive than the old program. They have made it more important that the customer shop at Nordstrom with their loyalty card rather than just shopping anywhere. This will boost Nordstrom’s share of wallet. Also they have added an effective tier system that may push customers to buy more than they would have originally.…

    1. When going about developing a marketing approach, an organisation needs to look at several factors, these factors can affect an organisation directly and sometimes even indirectly, The external factors that Woolworths and Topshop would need to take into consideration would be firstly, the macro environment: like the political stability of the country, the socio-cultural, technical, legal, environmental (green), and the economic environment of the country. Currently Woolworths is looking at expanding into Africa, for this the macro environment is important, at the same time Topshop has already expanded throughout most of the world, but now they are finally coming to Africa with their first store opening in Johannesburg in November this year. It is important for companies to forecast and analyze the marketing environment before making decisions. Both these companies are very good at this, Woolworths however I would say, leads in the environmental aspect of the business strategy, their retail products are becoming greener, for e.g. their bamboo socks and many other clothing items that are green. Topshop however does not have a good green strategy and would need to start developing this strategy to be able to keep up as this is the future of retail goods and even fashion. The micro elements of both companies also need to be investigated, the companies both have strong leadership and employ people that can help them take the business forward. Both companies have many competitors, but when it comes to fashion Topshop is amongst the top performing, they cater mainly to the younger consumer, and Woolworths cater to the older consumer. The internal elements of both companies are fairly similar but their target market is very different. With the worldwide recession, most businesses have felt the pinch, it is vital for companies to identify opportunities and also threats, and…
