According to the article called “Find Out What Makes a Good leader” by James Masktelow and Amy Carlson, they wrote that it is important to find the best leadership technique so the company can operate successfully (Masketlow &Carlson 2013). It is important to have ethical leaders in the workplace. Early theories stated that theories of leadership are instinct and not taught. One of the theories is called trait theory. Trait theory is similar to the Great Man theory. Trait theory describes the personality and behavior of a leader. According to the trait theory, there are other characteristics that leaders might have like extraversion, self confidence, and courage. Trait theory also stated that people are born with these traits and also have the potential to be good leaders (Cherry,2013).
Other philosophers believed that leaders can be taught how to lead. Behavior theory focuses on the behavior of the leader. Leaders are evaluated on how well they dictate what needs to be accomplished and whether the employees will follow orders and how the leaders involve their employees in the decision making or supporting roles. In 1930s, Kurt Lewin designed a model for behavior leadership. It consisted of three components. The first component is the autocratic leader. He reconstructed how things were done in the past with home depot. He hire more managers that had military background to manage the stores because they have the skills and managers experience that he wanted t o implemented in his workplace. He hired about 300,000 employees between 2003 and 2004 to open more stores and to bring more revenue in. The sales help increase the stocks by 30 percent. Nardelli made it a priority of his to make sure that the company will give good customer service to customers. Most of his employees described Nardelli as having a strong personality, aggressiveness, and GE discipline. He resigned from being a CEO because he did not agree with the board of directors. Nardelli did not want to take advice from the share holders. He left his positions with the company owing him and his board of directors a large amount of money (Robert Nardelli, 2013).
Even though, he was a good leader left the company owing him . He was a good CEO of Home Depot. He did not involve the shareholders and the employees in his business decisions. This type of style is called autocratic leader. He used the Six Stigma style to help adapt to any situation within the company. Most employees thought he was a good leader, but did not like him as leader because he did not involve anyone in the decision making
