Bureaucratic Matching Strategy
Analytic strategies are created to determine the influence that an organization has on those that engage in deviance. One of the analytic strategies used is the bureaucratic matching game. The strategy is used by organizations to sort clients into career lines, by way of workers placing stereotypes on them. This strategy has four features that are identified in order to understand bureaucratic-matching game. The first of the features that applies to this organization is their ideology and philosophy. These two values are at the core of the organization, as it serves as the basis for its purpose and goals. The second feature of this strategy involves daily routines. For example, when church members or other individuals come to the church for counseling, the counselor relies on certain stereotypes. The counselor will look for certain patterns in their client’s story, as well as certain attitudes from the clients themselves. These stereotypes are used to determine what act of deviance was committed and what needs to be done for the client, so that they will not repeat the deviant act. Therefore, receiving certain pieces of information from the client will make the counselor’s job easier in determining what the problem is and the solution that is needed. However, before any of these instances involving the workers take place, socialization procedures are followed. Both workers and volunteers are made aware of the church’s positions, goals, and ideals before any process is made in hiring or acceptance. Both groups are asked to provide resumes, so that church officials can determine what the best fit is for the applicant. Both groups are given some degree of training for the position that they are applying for. While churches tend to have guidelines that are different from other organizations, they follow patterns that are in line with the bureaucratic matching

In reviewing the failure of the storied Arthur Andersen (AA) accounting firm we see the influence of individuals’ decisions, particularly that of its leaders, but also the lack of individual accountability and a willingness to do whatever the group is doing.
