Bupivacaine Case Study
1. Sixty four percent of the patients belonged to the age group 30-50 years in group ‘B’ compared to fifty six percent in group ‘F’.
2. Sixty four percent of patients in group B were males compared to 60% in group F while 36 % and 40 % comprised of females in both the groups respectively.
3. Seventy six percent of the patients belonged to the weight of 50-70 kgs in group B compared to 76 % in group F.
4. Saturation of oxygen in both groups showed similar recording of 98.76 ± 0.43 in 240 mins which was statistically comparable.
5. Pulse rate in group B ranged from 81.12 ± 10.05 to 82.32 ± 10.60 and group F it was from 80.36 ± 09.28 to 79.12 ± 10.05 which was statistically comparable.

Gunnar in 1997 observed the mean time for rescue analgesia for bupivacaine 12.5 mg + 10 µg fentanyl was 140.0 ± 34.4 min. This may be due to increased dose of bupivacaine19. In our study the mean time for rescue analgesia for Group B is 141.60 ± 22.30 min and Group F is 182.00 ± 27.23 min.
Sergio in 1992, observed nausea in 2 (30) and vomiting in 1 (30) for bupivacaine 15 mg and nausea in 2 (30), vomiting in 2 (30) and pruritus in 12 (30) for bupivacaine 15mg + 25 µg fentanyl20. Diana in 1996 observed nausea in 2 (21) for bupivacaine 12.5 mg with 1ml saline and nausea in 1 (19) for bupivacaine 12.5 mg and fentanyl 25 µg17.
Pramod patra in 2005 observed nausea in 3 (25) & and vomiting in 2 (25) with bupivacaine 5mg with Fentanyl 25 µg.14 Thus our study result is consistent with the above study.
Kristina in 2000, observed shivering in 1 (20) and nausea in 1 (20) for bupivacaine 10 mg + 25 µg fentanyl16. Thus our study result is consistent with the above study.
