Bullying Essay
According to El Monte Union High School District bullying is defined as “as intentional, repeated hurtful acts words, or other behavior, such as name-calling, threatening and or/shunning committed by one or more children against another” (“Anti-Bullying” par. 2). There are several types of types of bullying: verbal, physical, and cyber bullying. Verbal bullying is the action of one that uses words to upset their victims by teasing and taunting them. This usually occurs because the bullies have low self-esteem and they desire to feel better about themselves and improve their social status. Skin color, individual lifestyle, and appearance are amongst the main topics a bully targets. Physical bullying is a bully uses physical force to control over the victim. Physical bullying always causes the most immediate threat of serious injury or even death for the victim. Physical bullying not only has an obvious physical injury, but an emotional or mental aspect as well. Victims may feel depressed and disappointed for the fact of they are unable to defend themselves. Cyber bullying is using the Internet and other social media to be intentionally mean or to harass others.
The primary goal of the school districts is to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all students and employees. Bullying disrupts both a student's ability to learn and a school's responsibility to educate its students in a safe environment. El Monte Union High School District addresses bullying through a combination of policies and information that are shared with all students and parents. According to El Monte Union High School District Anti-Bullying policy, “If a student is found guilty of bullying behavior the disciplinary action shall depend on both the results of the investigation and the severity of the incident.
