Let’s Prevent Bullying
This day in age, most of our children enjoy going to school. They are excited to see their friends and meet new ones. However there are some that don’t want to go to school, due to the fact that there is bullying in the schools. Too many children are bullied today in our schools and the school administrators and parents need to help prevent this from happening. There are many types of bullying. The first type is physical bullying. Some examples are: punching, poking, strangling, hair pulling, beating, biting and excessive tickling. The second type of bullying is verbal bullying. Some examples are: hurtful name calling, teasing and gossiping. The third type of bullying is emotional bullying. Examples of emotional bullying include rejecting, terrorizing, extorting, defaming, humiliating, blackmailing, and rating/ranking of personal characteristics such as race, disability, ethnicity, or perceived sexual orientation and peer pressure. Then there is the fourth type of bullying which is sexual bullying. Examples of sexual bullying include many of the actions listed above as well as exhibitionism, voyeurism, sexual propositioning, sexual harassment and abuse involving actual physical contact and sexual assault.
When bullying occurs who gets hurt by it? Bullying and harassment often interferes with learning. Bullying usually occurs away from the eyes of teachers or parents and or other responsible adults. Victims of bullying can suffer far more than actual physical harm; their grades may suffer because attention is drawn away from their learning. Fear may lead to absenteeism in school and also truancy or drop outs may occur. Some victims may not develop self-esteem, experience feelings of isolation and may become withdrawn and depressed. Some will take measures into their own hands. Some victims will turn to fighting back, carrying weapons or even suicide. Often victims are more likely to grow
