Building Construction Progress
Building Construction Progress I am most interested in the career, Building Construction Technology. To be successful in this career you need excellent organization skills. You also need to be mathematically inclined. You should also have the skills and abilities to work with others and be able to compromise and negotiate. You must be able to use your time wisely and be a problem solver. Personally I believe that I possess most of these skills and abilities. I am pretty good with mathematics. This is important because everyday there will always be something to measure of an estimate to give. I am able to work with others. This is especially important because you will always be on a team or have to team to work alongside with. For the most part I am able to compromise and negotiate. Also I am a great problem solver when it comes to on site conflict, but I could improve my ability to use time wisely. I will work on this throughout my senior year to ensure that I am prepared for this line of work. I have visited a few colleges that have my major, and both have very similar classes. There are a few dual enrollment course that are …show more content…
With getting involved with these retired construction workers, I can get references and some experience. I am hoping to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology. This is a tech school that offers a 2 and 2 plan. You can start with an associates degree then add 2 more years and get a bachelor's degree. I would attend straight for the bachelor's degree. Upon visiting Penn Tech, I spoke to the Dean of the Building Construction department. She informed me of all the courses required and the tests needed. There is a placement test that everyone applying takes. Although not required, she recommended the SATs with essay and the ACTs with essay. She told my mom and I that I was just the type of student they

In order to understand how the World Trade Center collapsed we need to understand their structure. To save money and maximize floor space the two towers were built with a tube structure instead of the more common lattice structure. The tube structure was economically favorable because the structure required half the amount of steel compared to the lattice structure and created more floor space (one acre for every floor) without compromising the strength of the structure. This design also makes the building more resistant to strong winds. This was particularly important in New York City where winds created more lateral load on the building than seismic activity. The World Trade Center was built to sustain thirteen thousand tons of wind. The…

Building codes and safety purpose. Building codes act an important role in construction and design phase. In the past, most building codes and standards have used prescriptive (or compliance) criteria. In recent years, there has been strong interest worldwide in developing codes and standards that are more performance based ( Foliente, 2000). The purpose of building codes are to increase safety in the design of the project and its construction. For example, according to the 2010 California Building Code, the multiple purpose is clearly stated that "to establish the minimum requirements to safeguard the public health, safety and general welfare through structural strength, means of egress facilities, stability, access to persons with disabilities, sanitation, adequate lighting and ventilation and energy conservation; safety to life and property from fire and other hazards attributed to the built environment; and to provide safety to fire fighters and emergency responders during emergency operations." (CBC, 2010). Building codes are created by the local governments, state and federal. The federal government is the least active participant, mandating design standards on such matters as the Americans with Disabilities Act. Actually, under the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Construction, building codes are a problem of state concern, and there is no national building code. Every cities and…

My personality, values and interests would go along well with occupations. My personality characteristics would benefit me well in Post- Secondary Education because I am outgoing, kind, helpful, friendly and warming to many people. In 2011, everything changed when my family decided to move to the United States. This was one of the most stressful years of my life because I had to adapt to a whole new culture and language that I did not know. After the first semester in high school (second semester of freshman year), everything ran much smoother, and I started to slowly understand more and more. By my senior year, I was on the student council, graduated with a 3.80 GPA, and got accepted to all the Cal State Universities (CSU) I had applied. After careful thought, I decided to attend Cal State Northridge (CSUN) because they have one of the best civil engineering programs in California. As a first-generation college student, I struggled during my first year, but after that first year, I made valuable connections that had to help me succeed. I joined the American Society of Engineers (ASCE) where I got to a net of support of like-minded people who also had similar…

I have always wanted to be able to do the same work that my father does. I have always found it fascinating when there are only a few people who organize, lead, and manage the people, materials, and processes of construction in a company. I always enjoy being outside and working with my hands. Over the summers I work for construction companies in Palestine , and want to continue that when I get out of College. I feel that if I come out of college with a BSBA in Real Estate and Construction management that I will be able to find a good job that will allow me to get my feet wet in the construction business. I then would be able to work my way up the corporate ladder, where I can become an owner of a Construction company just like my father.…
