Task 1 – ‘What Makes A Good Leader?’

Describe four qualities, four characteristics and four roles common to effective sports leaders.

Four Qualities

Knowledge of rules and laws
e.g.
Sir Alex Ferguson CBE, Manager of Manchester United Football Team since 1986. He is a manager and ex Scottish player and knows the skills required by each player in the team and their position on the pitch. His tenure is the longest of all the current league managers and he has won many awards and records and has been voted Manager of the Year the most times in British football history. As a role model, motivator, trainer etc. he has the reputation of one of the most admired managers in the history of the game and was knighted in 1999 for his services to the game. He also holds the Freedom of the City of Aberdeen.
