Breastfeeding Should Be Banned Essay
Breastfeeding is a natural thing but the concerns pertaining to mothers nursing in public has become a more prevalent matter than most consider. In fact, it is one of the most debated topics in today’s society. Is it okay for women to breastfeed their baby in public? Should breastfeeding be banned completely? Some seem to think this issue is entirely misunderstood and disrespectful to women and is an act of indecent exposure, unknowingly realizing that it is the most natural thing in the world. Breastfeeding is an intimate bond between a mother and her child and it is a private issue that should be handled as such. Nonetheless, all women should have the right to legally breastfeed their babies in public without being ridiculed.
First, we need to understand the benefits of breastfeeding in general. Besides the obvious intimate bond that forms between a mother and her baby while breastfeeding, it is also known to aid in decreasing the risk of illnesses and obesity in both the mother and her child. Nursing can also prevent from obtaining financial hardship by saving money by not purchasing formula. Clearly, these reasons are just a few that prove why breastfeeding should not be scowled upon. The benefits of breastfeeding and doing such in public are more than most are aware of. Some of these benefits are the financial hardship that is taken away from the family, but the most important advantage I believe is that breastfeeding is healthier not only for the babies but for the mothers as well. And if not, why would you tell a first time mother that her baby’s cafeteria is quite possibly one of the dirtiest rooms in any establishment? Women should not be ashamed to feed their children, in public or at home.
