Brainwashing By Steven Johnson: The Control Of Video Games

In this book, Steven Johnson is talking about the control that mass-media is having on people. Everything moves around mass-media, internet, games and all that includes this industry, taking over the idea of „brainwashing”. First of all, he’s describing his favorite game from his childhood, that his dad bought him when he was nine. The game was called „ American Professional Baseball Assosiation” (APBA), it was a baseball simulation. A company in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, had analyzed the preceding season's statistics and created a collection of cards, one for each player who had played more than a dozen games that year. From cute games, they promote now violence, sex, aggression, and most of the time you get angry, mad, sad because you lose, so, my question is: Where is the fun? Kids should have fun playing games, otherwise everything it’s just a waste of time.
Why do games captivate? In the gameworld, reward is everywhere. The universe is literally teeming with objects that deliver very clearly articulated rewards: more life, access to new levels, new equipment, new spells. Like everything in life, videogames has good parts and bad parts, that effect people and kids specially. We hear about car accident, crimes, violence all the time, is it actually right to promovate this kind of things? So many children, watch this kinds of news and try to do in real life what they see in social life, thinking that those things are good and that lifestyle is the right one. Even if they promovate this kind of news, they cover the story so we can see what they want them to see, not what is true. Kids nowadays do not read anymore, they all are into their cellphones, computers, watching and playing games they were not supposed to play, the media control is like a „brainwash”of children, teenegars, and parents. With all these facilities, witch are so handy nowadays, all we have to do is just make a search on internet and we find everything we want there, we don’t ever bother to think a bit, we just take the informations and copy. In my opinion, people can not imagine their life without mass media, they’re addicted to their phones, to their computer, because they can easly bring information from them. Is hard not to give your child everything he wants, when you, as parent are addicted to everything he is addicted to.
