Brahma's Role In Hindu Religion
The Hindus had a polytheistic religion. This meant that they worshiped many gods. These gods were responsible for the making, annihilation, and defense of the world (BBC, 2009). They were very important to the Hindus because of the specific jobs they had. Hindu gods are important because of how much they do for the Hindus.
Brahma is the first of the three gods in the Hindu triumvirate (BBC, 2009). His job was to make sure that when the world was destroyed it was made again. However, even though Brahma is the creator god, he isn’t nearly as popular as the two other members of the triumvirate (Crashcourse, 2017). The reasoning for this is because once Brahma made the world, his job was done (Crashcourse, 2017). He didn’t have any other job or role to play for humans, so this lead to his unpopularity. Vishnu’s job is to protect the world from evil (Crashcourse, 2017). He comes to earth to maintain the balance between good and evil (BBC, 2009). He was very popular because he protected the word from evil and maintained the balance in the world. Vishnu comes to earth in avatars. An avatar is the form of a god on earth. He uses these avatars to protect the earth (Crashcourse, 2017). In Hindu religion, Vishnu has come to earth nine times, but the Hindus predict that he will come once more near the end of the earth (BBC, 2009). Because Vishnu had a job that called for him to be constantly working, he was highly respected in Hindu religion especially by people who worked
