What is bowling?
Bowling is a sport in which players attempt to score points by rolling a bowling ball along a flat surface in order to knock down objects called pins.
History
Bowling is said to have started around 3200 B.C. by the Egyptians, but that is not for certain. What is certain is that there are many different forms of the game played around the world. The first permanent location was in New York City’s battery area, now the heart of the financial district. The New Yorkers’ call it “Bowling Green”. On September 9th, 1895, at Beethoven Hall in New York City, the American Bowling Congress was born. Only men were allowed on this congress. It wasn’t till 1917 that women got their own league called The Women’s International Bowling Congress. The congress was born in St. Louis. Television embraced bowling in the 1950’s. NBC’s broadcast of “Championship Bowling” was the first network coverage of the sport. Today, the sport is being enjoyed by 95 million people in more than 90 Countries world wide.
What you’ll need
These are the following things that you’ll need to play the sport. A bowling ball, hand towel, bowling shoes, bowling bag, and a bowling hand glove.
What is the process of bowling?
The process seems complicated when you first hear about it but after you get the hang of it it’s really simple. First of all, you need to pick the correct ball. How you do this is the ball should weigh 1/10th of your weight. For example, if you weigh 110 pounds, you would need an 11 pound ball. To make sure the holes are correct, place your thumb in the thumb hole and lay you middle two fingers over the other holes. Your second joint should be 1/4th of an inch near the edge of the holes.
